extended and external batteries

Just bought a verizon galaxy nexus and am already tearing through this battery. I see alot of ppl buying extra batteries. Im new to all the phone mods and educating myself. Can someone offer suggestions to these batteries.

I got the OEM extended battery. Works well for me, usually lasts a work day and I always keep the original battery for backup
