External SD folder moved with JB update causing problems

I have just updated the OS in my Samsung SG2 from 4.0.3 (ICS) to 4.1.2 (JB). For a few days everything seemed to be running perfectly. Then I tried to transfer files from my PC to the external SD card on my phone using Android Sync Manager as I had done many times before. That is when I found out that the upgrade had moved the external SD card folder from "/mnt/sdcard/external_sd" to "mnt/extSdCard" without any notification. When I tried to set the destination folder in Android Sync Manager to "mnt/extSdCard" I was not able to, as the "root" was considered to be the internal memory card (sdcard). This is also the same for other similar applications. I can perform the transfer manually using a file explorer but it makes syncing files between my PC and phone much more difficult with JB than it was with ICS. Does anyone know of a workaround?
