External speaker volume too low

This is driving me crazy! The external speaker volume on this phone is too low. I've got the volume on my Evo Shift turned up full volume, but I cannot hear my voicemail messages with the speaker on. I have to turn it off to hear the messages. The speaker on this phone stinks! Is there a volume boosting app that will work with this phone? Anyone have any recommendations (besides me getting a hearing aid for my birthday)? The ringer is loud enough and phone call volume is OK. It's just the external speaker. :'(

Even my 30ish something daughter can't hear anything over the external speaker....
