So I don't understand what the whole hullabaloo is over the SD card issue is for. With the included drop box storage you can stream all your HD movies, and access files just like they're on your phone with pretty much the same ease as using an SD arsc, so can anyone tell me what the big deal is? I've been using dropbox for all my movies on a basic 3g connection and have all the internal storage for apps. For the life of me I can't figure out what all the fuss is about.

So you have an unlimited data plan?

For the same reason that when bill gates said "640K ought to be enough for anybody" was later viewed as shortsighted.

with the camera on these phones improving, app size increasing, and the smartphone being used for more and more things, 32 or even 64 GB can get filled up pretty quick.

Okay, so I do have an unlimited data plan. Guess I was a bit silly to forget about that. I guess a better point would be why do you care about the SD card if you have unlimited data.

And in regards to the Bill Gate's shortsightedness, I think we're talking about a more than 2 year gap between his projection and now. I think 32 to 50 some gigs is probably alright for the next two years until you get an upgrade, and cloud storage will probably be much larger and more efficient than it is now well before then, and it's pretty impressive atm. So fast and smooth it really seems like internal storage. Pretty sure 32 to 64 gigs is plenty for most android users.

Fewer and fewer people have unlimited data plans and those that do are getting throttled more and more. Everyone who says "why would you need more than '10'gig storage when you have DropBox is forgetting that simple fact. Many folks (myself included) like to put my 20+ gigs of music on my phone and forget it. Hit shuffle in the car or at the office and I'm all set for life. HTC/ATT forcing you to live within the arbitrary confines of 10 (usable) gigs is a joke in these modern times and forces us to spend half our free time 'managing' what 10 gigs we want on the phone today.

Where are you getting the 32 to 64 GB? Its not the At&T HOX.

Dropbox is nice, but maxbemis and XxViperNYCxX hit it right on.

In terms of being able to watch stuff on the plane, it's nice to have a bunch of shows/movies loaded up on your device - and 10GB of usable space is not much.

First of all, I don't think you can stream videos from dropbox? I mean... can you play them on the phone as it downloads? Or do you have to completely download it ot the phone?

Besides, it would only take me 2 videos (1.5 GB a piece) to eat up my data cap. So that's not even an option. Dropbox is a piss poor solution. On my previous phone, I could plug into my computer, quickly drag videos to storage (sd card), and be on my way. That's what I want to be able to do with phones that are 2 YEARS NEWER as well...

I've been managing by leaving 2 GB of space free and using a WIFI hard drive. I can watch a movie, delete it, and copy over another movie from the wi-drive. Only takes a few minutes and I can leave the drive in my laptop bag or whatever and it still works fine. Not as convenient... but I have no other solutions.

I'm going to have to join the mob here as well. :p

Reasons why Dropbox is not the solution:

1. Data caps and/or throttling
2. Poor or no coverage areas
3. Streaming ability/quality
4. 25GB is still less than a 32GB card (not to mention you can use multiple sd cards)
5. Time wasted moving files back and forth
6. The Dropbox storage is only free for a limited time (2 years)

For reason #6, some could argue that you might not even own the phone that long but if HTC continues to omit SD card slots then what options does one have in the future if they want to continue using HTC devices after 2 years?

Yes, you can stream videos from dropbox, and there is no quality issue you can stream 720p. For the guy talking about the ease of dragging and dropping it's the same with dropbox.

I do have completely unthrottled data with at&t. When they tried to throttle me past 3 gigs I called and mentioned the successful lawsuit against them by that dude in cali and that it was illegal. I said I would file a small claim if I didn't have unthrottled data and the Indian guy promised I would have no throttling. I've had no problems since. If you have an unlimited on at&t call them and chew them out and you will get unlimited.

Dude It takes no more time than using an SD. And you'll have an upgrade in 2 years anyways,
Silly.

EDIT: Apparently somehow I didn't read the end of your reply, therefore I now regret making mine as it makes me look silly.

About how much time it takes. When you use a cloud service, like someone else has mentioned, once you run out of room on the phone you will have to clear up some space to move what you want onto the phone memory so there is more uploading/downloading going on rather then swapping out cards. This would mostly pertain to people who might want different, large/many files for offline use at different times. It might not be a "common" issue but an issue nonetheless.

I'm not trying to bash anyone. You gave your opinion and I'm just providing mine, this is a forum after all. No hard feelings or anything. :)

lol. It does not work that way. Calling and complaining does not get rid of the throttling. Even after mentioning the lawsuit. And with AT&T you used to get throttled at 2GB and that's when the lawsuit happened and that guy won.
The reason you can get more than 3GB without being throttled is NOT because the “Indian guy" promised so, its because AT&T changed what they do. They allow 3GB before throttling IF you have unlimited data plan on a smartphone that's NOT LTE. BUT you get 5GB BEFORE being throttled IF you have a LTE device on your account. Which the HTC One X obviously is. So yes, you have “unlimited data" plan with AT&T but they will still impose throttled data speeds once you reach a certain threshold.

In two years, when you decide your storage isn't big enough anymore, so will most other people. Good luck selling it for a decent amount then, to help with the cost of your new phone. Welcome to forced obsolescence, sponsored by HTC and their shareholders.

Used like 20 gigs with tether on my berry last month so I don't think that's accurate. I always got 3g speeds, worked fine for streaming gorilla vid all day, that wouldn't work on edge
according to att they throttle you after 3 gigs of 3g and 5 gigs for let. That has definitely not happened since I called and yelled at them.

And just fyi I don't have lte in my area, and can smoothly stream HD from dropbox with no lag on 3g. And to the guy who's worried about the price I'll get for my one x in 2 years, I appreciate your concern, but those who peddle in sin such as myself, and people with real jobs for that matter, don't have to worry about coming up with a couple hundred for a new phone every 2 years, lol. I still have all my blackberries from the 5000 series up to the bold 9900.
