Ok so I'm new to Android os, I got my Evo on launch so I have a weeks worth of experience so I know my way around the OS a little bit.

What I'm wanting to do is sync facebook to my phone but I don't want over 9000 contacts to pop up when I hit the phone, try to send a message, or when I'm looking someone up. Or maybe a way to filter this?

I'd prefer not to accidentally call a friend of mine in paris or someone else that I hardly talk to =P.

TLDR: Is there a way to sync a few contacts and not everyone.

unfortunatley its either all or none...but what you can do is when you go to people...then go to view. You can click only contacts with phone numbers. And that should weed out alot of contacts...granted that most people put their phone number on their facebook page.

I've been wondering this exact same thing... not only does it mess up your contacts, but it adds your friends birthdays as calendar events. I don't need my calendar to tell me I have an event scheduled every single day. Very frusterating.

so are you saying if I activate facebook on friendstream I have to also deal with every person i know on facebook who has their phone number listed in my contact list, as well as calendar events for people's birthdays... which is multiple birthdays per day.

You can set your contacts to not show the phone numbers of facebook friends. Open up your contacts and hit the Menu button, then select "View" Once you're here, remove the check mark for facebook.

To remove the facebook calendar entries.. Open up your Calendar app, hit the menu button, click "More" and then "Calendars". Once you're here, uncheck the Facebook box.

What are you guys talking about? Adding facebook on your phone only links a facebook profile to the phone contactsalready in your phone. It's nothing like what the Palm Pre does. You won't have all those people in your contacts.

What Marq said, facebook contacts have a totally different section. I think its called online directory. What I did was just add a new contact with just a phone number then linked it to the Facebook contact. Its actually better than the Pre because you dont have 300 contacts, just the 30 or so that you have linked.

Wrong. I have about 200 normal contacts in my phone, and around 400 facebook friends. If I open up the contacts, and select "View" it shows my 200 Google contacts, as well as another 300 or so facebook contacts. if you choose to display the facebook contacts, it will display all of them with available phone numbers, not just ones that are already contacts on your phone (Google account, etc)

Im not sure what you are doing but when I go to "People" it just has a list of my normal (Google) contacts. I have to scroll over to Online Directories to view my Facebook contacts.

They are talking about when you go to text message or make a call all of your facebook friends show up as contacts.
Remove the "Facebook for HTC Sense" account in the Accounts and Sync settings.

Yup. Exactly. Its a simple fix.. I dont really know why anyone would want their entire facebook community in their contacts to begin with. LOL

You just can't use FriendStream if you delete that account.
The Facebook app still works fine though.

Thats how it was on my Blackberry. It only sync'd people that were already in your phone. I just got my Evo today and it's syncing like 1500+ Facebook friends, even though I have it set not to sync Facebook contacts.

That did it. Thanks. Wish I could still have it sync my actual contacts though
