I downloaded Facebook and messenger today cause I thought, what could it hurt. My phone was on 30% in my pocket and I looked and it was down to 18% in half an hour... in my pocket.. I quickly Uninstalled both and my phone stayed at 16% for the next two hours... so ya

Yeah, whenever my wife complains about battery I tell her to uninstall those. Not that she does, or that her Snapdragon 808 isn't rather inefficient, but definitely a problem with those apps.

The funny thing is I know about the drain, but I thought I would try to see if those apps updated.

Yeah you can still get notifications in Chrome or Opera

Wouldn't this be evident in all phones? I wouldn't think this is an issue just with the G6? Know you had the V20 before this, did you have the same issue?

Can you still get notifications from Facebook using Chrome?

Yes you can I accidentally allowed that and it was very annoying. However, I have not used the app itself in years, so bad for battery. I just keep Facebook in my favs in chrome and that's that, barely notice a difference. Also, I do the same for the weather.com page for my area (AccuWeather sucks and the weather app is so bad on battery) so I just save a favorite to my home screen and it's like I'm opening the app. Bingo!

Yeah, it's a known issue across all android phones. The only time I had it installed on my V20 is when I had the extended battery. But I usually would use one of the wrappers from the play store.

I have m.facebook.com shortcut on my home page and installed FB Messenger Lite. This helps alot.

There's a FB Messenger Lite ? Is that what it's called ? Is it an official app or 3rd party offering?
I'm currently using Friendly for Facebook which also includes a lite version of Messenger. Works very well.

It's an official app but you have to side load it. Found it at APK mirror.
This. It's meant for emerging markets but works perfectly. Basically is Facebook and messenger without the bells and whistles, which translates as, what Facebook and messenger should have been all along.
