Facebook app is garbage

Is it me or is the Facebook app junk. Notifications don't work, keeps telling me I have a notification even after I've looked at it, and the only way to tell if I'm signed into chat is to open chat, hit "go offline" and hope it stays that way lest I tear through my battery in about 4-5 hours.

I've seen some other similar threads but they were pretty old and I just last week signed up for FB (late to the party I know). Are there any fixes for the notifications? Right now I've just turned them all off since I wasn't getting them anyway.

Yeah went through that already and it took me forever to get the settings right so I wouldn't get the emails everytime someone does anything. Guess theres no other app other than the official one?

Yes, the facebook app leaves something to be desired. The one on my dinc has the same issues that yours does, but my fiance's blackberry facebook app is even worse. Kind of shocking that a company like facebook would not have the most reliable apps.

My wife's Verizon iPhone app is leaps and bounds better in that the notifications are instant, even though there's no way to upload pictures directly (i don't think) and she has to live with the knowledge that Steve Jobs is secretly reading her messages.

Facebook is so boring. I deleted mine months ago all everyone does is whine and complain in the news feed. I love twitter I can't stop using it I don't even read the news anymore I just read tweets. It was especially awesome yesterday with the NHL trade deadline

I find myself using the mobile site more and more now. It really acts up pretty bad.

I use the app; but, it's missing a lot of things. You can't create groups, etc. Also, the mobile website is missing things too. Why can't I edit everything from the mobile site? To be honest: I like using mobile websites better than full versions on my phone. (Sometimes I load mobile sites on my computer, lol)

I never get notifications either.

I'm more of a twitter user than FB, so it doesn't really bother me. I do agree the app could use a overhaul but its nowhere near as bad as FB on my BlackBerry.

I have to disagree.. The BB version is leaps and bounds ahead of the Android version. I think the BB version is better than the iPhone version.

Now back to the post.. The FB app does suck, and the contacts sync on anything with Sense is also horrible. I use seesmic now. It works great and i can do both twitter and fb in it. If you don;t like seesmic than you can try tweetdeck. It will do both and it doesn't suck at all.

Yes you can upload pics directly via iPhone Facebook app. I can help out if you/she needs it.

This is true. However push notifications worked on there.

That's my main issue with FB for BB, I never received my notifications. So not getting them on android is nothing new.

I use Seismic for Twitter but o don't see the option for FB. Only other thing I see is Google buzz..

Edit: just noticed there is a update for Seesmic that says it integrates FB

How are Seesmic or Tweetdeck as standalone Facebook clients? I don't have a Twitter account at this time.

My main gripe (other than of course never getting push notifications) is that my Facebook app will randomly & sometimes for hours at a time say, "Can not retrieve the notifications at this time. Please try again later" & "An error occured wile fetching data" when I try to manually refresh my notifications or news feed since I don't set mine to auto refresh.

Can you still comment on or "like" someone else's posts/pictures? I know that I can just install & try them but wanted to get people's opinions first before I went thru the hassle.

Just from what little experience I have with FB on seismic it seems pretty basic. You can read timeline and comment or like all the post. Im not sure how the notifications work, haven't got any in the 3 hours I have added my FB account. If your a big FB user I would say that the app is probably a little better than seismic. As far as tweetdeck, I know its a great desktop client and great for Twitter on android but I never added my FB account to it.

Guess I'm alone.

Other than the broken notifications (are you serious?) and the "am i logged into chat or not" ambiguity, I think the app is fine for mobile needs. And FB for Sense is pretty dam good at integrating contacts. Can't speak for the other MFU UI's tho.
