Why is it a problem if I just let it install? Is this a "beta" I might not want?

What is was is an update straight from Facebook, not from the play store so if u allow install of non-market sources then this allows the update to be pushed to ur device. It only installs over Wi-Fi , not mobile data, so until u turn on ur Wi-Fi or stop it its just going to sit there. On Android 4.x u should just be able to go in ur app drawer, select downloads, select it and press the little garbage can in the top right to delete it.

Go to you Download Manager, you'll find Facebook (build 141046). Check the box next to it and delete. It's the only way. I've tried and that works.

Just go to the downloads widget and open it and it will show recent down loads. Just press and hold the facebook build and it will give you tthe option to delete that download. Press delete and problem solved.
