Facebook Contacts sync not working

Unfortunately I can tell you sync does not work in version 49 after the update from version 27.

Well, after doing the steps mentioned by me on this thread, the phones that were not syncing before are syncing, and all are on latest version 49.

The reason you have to uninstall the updates or the app is because you can not install an older version app on top of a higher version of the app.

Im having the same original issue. So if you cant uninstall Facebook from Samsung Galaxy s6 edge because it came installed, BUT can not install an older version on top of a new version....what is there left to do?? Everything was fine until I accidentally logged out of my FB app. I logged back in and now I can not sync it. I have uninstalled the newest updates. It went back to v34 I think. I disabled, cleared cache, forced a stop. But it still will not let me dowload the previous v27. It is driving me INSANE!! Suggestions pleeeeease???

I've been pulling my hair out trying to fix this, stumbled upon this thread and tried this procedure. worked perfect! Actually have done it twice. first time it worked but once I updated facebook in play store, it stopped syncing. contacts still there but stopped syncing. had to add a couple new facebook friends. second time it worked again, this time i didn't update in play store, got an auto update for messanger and it seemed to update facebook too cuz it looked different but the sync contact option was still on the bottom of the app settings. BTW, no update available in play store for facebook now either, just says open, not update. weird! But a big thanks to everyone for this!!

I've done all this as well and I keep getting the error message that the app isn't installed.

Just read that facebook took the option to sync out while they are testing some beta versions, didn't confirm but seems the option will be going back in with later version, odd they would take it out for testing and leave it out.

Also, Ive tried this procedure out on 3 different phones and it worked each time. download v27 on phone. uninstall current version of facebook. go to downloads, click on file and hit install, might say install blocked go to settings, select option to allow 3rd party this one time only. hit install and should say installed when done. after sync contacts, update facebook. good to go.

I also have tried downloading version 27 and keep getting an error. I have a Galaxy S5 and when I got into my settings and under applications I am unable to disable facebook like I can other apps, only force stop. And when I open the download, this is the screen I get. And then after I click install, I get the error message app not installed.

This is EXACTLY what happens when I try the install. I cant uninstall Facebook, and the lowest upgrade I can go back to is v34.

I understand the process... But I get caught up when I get the same error message posted in #87. Does someone have a way to get around this message and a better version to install?

can you show me what it looks like when you go into facebook in the application manager.

wait buddy.. so can you confirm the sources where you read that from by any chance? also google is waky also. i did a reset on my phone and nothing is backed up.. wall paper setting nothing and of course i have all options as they should be to restore but is not restoring.. also my gallery is completely empty .... nothing is syncing nothing,...

I read it directly off of the facebook support page. I had done a factory reset before also. nothing seemed to have backed up. A few minutes after the phone rebooted things started to restore, wierd! who's your service provider? I also had a facebook support staffer respond to my request on facebook originally about contacts not syncing, and tell me something is probably wrong with my phone, even when I'm reading on their page that they temporarily removed that feature. Funny!!

Have googled for hours and no closer to fixing this problem (which first arose for me a few days ago, i.e. mid October 2015).

Had facebook v50.xxxx
have most up to date samsung update as of oct 16th 2015
have messenger

problem = NO facebook contacts are in the phone anymore. Cannot see any facebook contacts. When contacts > settings > contacts > contacts to display.. set to "facebook only", when you go back to view all contacts there are NO contacts in the list.

Have gone to facebook > app settings > continuous contacts upload ON

have uninstalled facebook v50.xxxx and installed v47.0.0.xxx via an apk website. v47 works fine on the phone but it made no difference to my problem (tried re-starting the phone). DID notice that in system settings > accounts > facebook it now lists "sync contacts" (where it didnt before with v50), but checking this makes no difference. Same issue of "sync now" done in 1 second and still no contacts.

anyone have any idea where else to go with this? im about to throw the phone at a wall.

I wonder if following these steps and disabling the current version of fb will help make my push notifications start working again. Ugh, I don't know why fb is so messed up!

Latest update for facebook, and now the sync contacts option is back in the settings > accounts > facebook menu as of 10 minutes ago

That screenshot is not from one of the latest Samsung Galaxy Flagships (S6, edge, Note5 and edge +), right? There is no more calendar or gallery sync in latest flagships.

have uninstalled messenger and facebook,
have installed v47, v41, v42 via apk website with no change.
have installed the newest version (17th Oct 2015),
have the "sync contacts" option returned and visible in fb app settings,
have synced, re-synced, re-re-synced,
have power cycled phone,
STILL NO facebook contacts visible in contacts list..
