Facebook photos

Weird issue. I am trying to upload a photo from my photos on Nexus 5 to Facebook. When I click on the upload picture icon my 2 options are documents or camera. Camera goes to take a picture and documents shows the picture but when I click it says failed to open selected file. For my nexus I just opened gallery. Why is there no option for photos? Am I doing something wrong?
I don't have the fb app. Any help would be appreciated.

I gave up on the Facebook app a long time ago. It's just a mess. I manually upload everything to facebook from my PC...it's the only way I know for sure it'll work.

I have uploaded stuff using the facebook app before but it is very hit and miss.
