Facebook Push Notifications Not Working - Verizon Samsung S7E

I really hope someone can help me with my issue. Facebook has been no help to me on this issue, and others on Facebook who have the same exact phone are not having any issues. When i first got my S7E a while back, i was getting push notifications for Facebook, now nothing, i have wiped my phone, checked app settings, notifications setting in system, Facebook account setting for mobile, everything is on and should be working, but nothing, nada. This is not the only app that i noticed is effected, NHL app does no longer give me push notifications, i've done everything with that as well, Tinder does not give me push notifications any longer (although i don't use much), but Facebook has been my thorn, it's nice to get a notification when someone comments on something, or posts to my time, etc. I mean NHL is kinda a pain not having either to keep up with a game, but the season is over now. Anyways, one thing i did notice, if i completely change phones, example would be getting a replacement for warranty, but the same model, then push notifications start working again. I feel like it's something on my google or facebook account and syncing with the correct phone.

With all that said, i hope someone could shed some light on this.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to Android Central! Just to make sure -- have you turned off any power-saving modes? Checked to make sure Restrict Background Data is off in Settings>Data Usage? There might also be a Battery Optimization menu in the Settings>Battery menu, which you can set for individual apps -- make sure those apps aren't optimized.

Funny you should say that, before i posted this, i was searching around noticed you said the same things to a couple other people, so i did check that, but just to be safe, i checked again, and no power-saving modes are on. No Data Saver (or Restrict Background Data), actually i made Facebook allowed to have unrestricted data regardless. And no Power Save (Optimizations) for Facebook.

Yes, it's an issue that's popped up a few times lately. It's hard to say if it's a problem with those apps, with the system, or perhaps with some other app that's interfering. It might be difficult to figure out, since Safe Mode won't help. One option is to uninstall apps one by one and see if the issue goes away. Another is to do a factory reset, then only install Facebook (or one of the other apps that isn't behaving correctly), and see if notifications come through. Both of these options are obviously tedious, so we can also see if others have the same issue on the same or similar phone.

Thanks...what do you propose I do first? Should I wait and see? Wipe? (Which I done already). Or go somewhere else? I've already contacted Facebook to no avail...so do you think maybe Android support could maybe help with this and look into my account? I'm just at a loss here and need some direction.

Thanks in advance.

When you wiped your phone before, did you immediately reinstall all of your usual apps? If so, then your next step could be to do another factory reset, and then only install one of those apps, then see if notifications come through.

The support you'd need wouldn't be from Google -- it would more likely be from Samsung, since Samsung are the ones who modify the base Android code.

I don't mind trying that, it sucks cause i have to wipe again, but anyways, when i did wipe, i just let google restore everything. So do you think i should not let google restore and act as a new phone?
Maybe it's something in the google config?

If you are going to try another factory reset, then yes, I would agree with not letting Google restore everything automatically. You could then install just one of those problem apps, and see if it still doesn't serve up any notifications.

I'm back! Complete wipe, no full google restore...only installed Facebook, same thing, no push notifications. Strange though, i created a fake Facebook account, had one of my friends friend me, got the notification right away, has him post on my timeline, notification right away, logged out and back into mine...nothing again...everything in my account is turned on...so it has to be my Facebook account, right?

Sorry, I'm not sure what to try next.:(

Does your main Facebook account have a lot of Apps or Games added to it? No idea if this would have anything to do with it, but if you do, see what happens if you get rid of them all.

No, very few; Waze, Weather Channel, Instagram, Hiya, and Exxon...that's it, and I have removed them trying to fix this issue. I truly believe it's something with my account, i remember the last time this worked was before i got my replacement phone from Verizon when my phone died, maybe push notifications are still trying to go to my old phone identifier since I didn't have a chance to logout on that phone?

That would be odd, since the notifications should just be locally pushed to the phone that the app is installed to -- it shouldn't depend on any previous phone.

Ok, one more option I can think of -- reinstall the phone's firmware, in case something went goofy with the current firmware, thus interfering with notifications. This would be another data wipe, sorry -- but it's probably still worth trying. http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29914
