I want to be able to link my contacts with my facebook WITHOUT my entire facebook friend list appearing on my phone setting. I have already unchecked facebook from the "people>menu>view" option, so my friends do not show up under people. They are, however, showing up when I hit the "phone" option. I tried de-selecting "sync contacts" under the "accounts and sync" menu...still didn't work. The only way I can make the 100 extra names disappear is by turning off the "facebook for HTC Sense" sync...but then it doesn't sync my contacts either. Isn't there a way to just sync my contacts without everyone else appearing?

Go to "People", press your "menu" button, click on "view". From there you can deselect all Facebook people from being shown, or you can deselect all people without a phone number from being shown.

or from the facebook app u can go to setting and select sync contacts and choose if u wanna sync all or sync to existing contacts

I know what you're talking about, but I'm not able to do that in the settings menu on Facebook. I think it's because the phone comes preloaded with "facebook for HTC Sense." I was able to select that upon installing Facebook on my rooted Hero that had "facebook for htc sense" removed.

I'm also not able to select "facebook" in "accounts and sync" menu, but I am able to select "facebook for htc sense"...and yes both of them are listed, which I think is odd. At the very least they should be merged somehow to only show one.

On he Shift, in the end, I ended up just syncing only contacts that have phone numbers. That definitely kept a lot of my facebook contacts from showing up in my phone contacts, but there were still residual facebook contacts that remained because the people had their phone numbers listed on their facebook accounts (even though i have no plans to ever contact them).

I also hated that even if I had a photo ID pic of someone for them it changes it to their facebook pic and now the photo id pic was lost

Your images shouldn't be lost. Go to the contact, press "menu", "Link" and click on the contact photo to change the photo.

As for the two Facebook programs, HTC's program includes more integrated functionality and has been around for longer than the official Facebook app has been useful, and both are entirely separate apps with very distinct functionality.

Thanks that worked
