Just looking for opinions. Waiting for our Sprint update that was (apparently) released today and want to do it right.

No. It is not necessary to factory reset before an update. But, AFTER the update I recommend you clear the cache partition.

Follow these instructions:

1. Turn the phone off

2. Press and hold the Power key, and the Volume down key together.

3. When you see the LG logo let go of the Power key and then press it again (you should keep pressing the Volume down key throughout).

4. Use the volume keys to navigate to Clear Cache, and then push the power button to select it.

Hopefully that helps :)

If I did this, will it delete my pictures and music on my phone?

No, it will not. Cache partition is just filled with temporary files.

I believe during an OS upgrade like this, the cache gets purged as part of the process.
