Farewell Xoom

If you only use it for the same basic purposes....basically I read that as you don't need the extra bells and whistles offered by the Xoom....

So, why don't you just go and get another brand new iPad that just went on sale. Seems like the best way to go if it already perfectly met your needs and you aren't going to utilize the extra benefits in a more powerful unit.

apple pulls the same crap, if you want the iphone 4 to work to its full potential You have to buy a case so you dont drop signal. at least they are offering as a FREE upgrade. The ONLY thing that ipad has on the Xoom is Price which isnt too big of a difference to the comparable ipad 2 and apps, which in a months time will increase significantly.

God I'm so tired of hearing about this......use the phone then complain if you have the grip issue. All phones have the death grip if you heavily palm the whole phone where the antenna is. Simply use the phone like you would any other and no issues.

More action? lol. Sure why not.

I do hope RIM hits a homerun with the Playbook but i'm not convinced. Ill be closely watching it though. It's intriguing.

I think RIM needs to go back and redesign their phones. They can't even make a phone let alone a tablet device. We switched to Blackberries a couple of years ago from Windows Mobile 6.1 and i thought I was using Windows 3.1 on a phone. Thank god the iphone changed the market!

Nothing beats the iPhone and Android iPhone wanna be phones out there.

Two words(and a number) sums up why the Xoom beats out the iPad2...

...nVidia Tegra 2

Stop and think about the processor alone.. We've already seen it can be OC'd by a ******ed amount.. and all current benchmarks show it blowing through anything else. This new CPU is so powerful.. we literally dont have anything that can push it to it's limits, and you know people are going to be Dev'n for it as the flagship for a while cause lets face it.. it's the N1 of tablets.

Your reasons seems to all point to "well I can do it with my apple just as well" but that's because we've been limited till now... There just isnt anything that can take advantage of it's true potential to show you just what it's truely made of.. But now that it's out.. I bet you will see apps pouring out of the works that will REALLY show you what the Xoom is made out of.

I cant wait for the damn thing to come to Canada.. Hoping it will have all the updates by then :) But I would still buy one tomorrow if I had the $$ in hand and could get it running up here

How do you know the Tegra beats the iPad 2? I haven't seen any benchmarks at the time of your posting!

having a webcam is important. Although I didn't have it on my first generation ipad, now that its being offered on the new generation, id much rather have a cam. I used the camera on the xoom to video chat with my friends and distant family and it was great. Not having to hop on to my desktop and just lay on the couch with the kids was a lot of fun.

$800 is far to much for what it is currently offering. I also returned mine, and it saddened me. I just can't justify paying that much to surf the internet. Maybe in a few months android will have netflix, a itunes type service, or hulu. Right now it just offers nothing worthwhile.

Dude.. you're returning it because you heard about the iPad 2 today? We all knew about the iPad 2 for weeks... some could argue a year.

I second you sentiments, I use to have an iphone 4 and I got bored of the os. The call quality and antenna was the same as any other phone.

basically. I don't really need the bells and whistles. Sort of. Like when it came to widgets, I didn't much pay attention to them. Being able to customize the device, although great, I wasn't that interested after getting good use in. I basically surfed the web and read books while having the occasional video chat. I'm not a huge gamer so that's not a big deal for me, ruling that out. And im sure everyone will agree that Apple has excellent apps on the ipad. And a lotbof them. That's also a big draw. I have no doubt the xoom will catch up with plentiful and quality apps but right now its not there. I may take a look at the xoom in a few months time so see where its at.

we've all known about it. But I needed to wait until it was official to find out my take on things.

Gotcha. The camera would make a difference between the 2 iPads.

Well, can't say I would take your route --- but everyone has his/her own preference.

(We all know you will get bored with the iPad and be back here anyways! :D )

:) you may very well be right. I do plan on taking a closer look in a few months and seeing the progress that the xoom has made. I hope for great things!

Love the weight of the IPad 2....thinness I dont care about it was already thin enough...as are the android tablets...

I like the hardware the Ipad 2 brings except the ram and the resolution, but **** man...NO UPDATES TO THE OS!??

Honestly, iOS is nothing more than an app launcher. iPads are great now because of their aps...if android can catch up somewhat to the iPAd apps, I dont think it will be as good.

Yes, I own a Xoom...i have also owned 2 Galaxy tabs and 2 Ipads...the iPad was BORING, but the aps made them compelling...the Xoom OS is a lot of fun, but the tablet specific apps need to come...I am hoping the aps come.

I too was hoping for some IOS changes...like a change to the notification implementation

Motorola needs to release a WiFi only version QUICKLY if it wants the Xoom to remain afloat. Say what you want about the technical details of the two tablets, but the average joe consumer doesn't compare spec-for-spec, he compares dollar-for-dollar. And right now with the cheapest iPad 2 being $499 (and the original being $399), it would take a fool or a fanboy to get the Xoom over the iPad.

Motorola got greedy and they are now feeling the heat. They released a product with at least three unfinished major features and priced it higher than anything on the market, with no cheaper-tiered alternatives.

Way to go, Motorola, you blew it. The first Honeycomb tablet should have went to HTC.

Why? I don't think they should have put Sense on it, and they should have just made it the Nexus One of Honeycomb. The Nexus One still is a beautiful device and one hell of a workhorse.
