Farewell Xoom

I do agree that the iPad is VERY user friendly. And why should it not be? Some like highly customizable and deep OS integration. Some dont care about that. My 3 year old son is also very familiar with iOS and I am glad for that. I think that early introduction to tech will help him in the future and as he gets older he will be more familiar. I placed him in front of my Xoom and he was totally lost.

You just made my point from the "iPad is a toy" thread :)

But again it's no more a toy than the xoom is. I can email, edit docs, surf the net, just as well if not better than the xoom. Just because something doesn't have widgets doesn't mean it's a toy. My 5 year old knows how to shoot my pistol, does that make it a toy? My 2 year old knew how to call me on my dinc, does that mean that's a toy? You're reaching a little.

Actually iPad and Xoom are equal in build quality and Xoom wins in specs, hence Xoom wins :)

And you have your opinion of Apple users and I have mine :) The vast majority of them have no idea why they bought an iPhone/iPad other than they think it's cool. I'm not claiming YOU specifically are in that 90%, I'm just saying...I just know too many people who own iPhones and they are generally idiots when it comes to tech.

Once can't possibly be this ignorant, can they?

This probably the dumbest thing I've heard this year. So people that buy Apple products are idiots? Are you serious? The vast majority that buy Android devices don't even know what Android is. They just know the name of the phone they have and because the store rep told them is the next best thing or better than the iPhone. They have no clue what Android is, the "openness" of it and how to take advantage of it. You think people buy Apple's products just because it's cool well here's the main reason: They just work. Period. What does your Xoom do right now that the iPad doesn't? Let me guess live wallpaers and widgets. Ummmmm ok that certainly makes the device better. You're probably one of those users that don't mind the fact that google allowed apps in to their app store that can hack your phone. Because what ever Google allows is ok with you. You're the worst kind of fan boy.... one that just says idiotic things just to type something.

I have added to the debate as well as pointed out your rashness in me saying the same things you are dying today, just 10 days earlier. I can multitasking better then an iPad.

Get over it and move on. What we are talking about now and what went on LAST week is different. I'm sorry your feelings got hurt.

Honestly at this point without a price drop the Xoom has been a PR mistake from almost the beginning. It wins CES 11, then prices fly around between $600 to $1200. Then they finally release only a 3G version. It doesn't support flash, the sd card slot needs to be upgraded. It may eventually support LTE with an upgrade. The camera features are buggy. I really want a XOOM, and I really want honeycomb so I can do what I want with the OS and the tablet just like my Droid X is mine and I did what I wanted with it. Then IPAD 2 announcement is made and nothing from Motorola.

Just seems like the Xoom has been a mess with everything except the first thing it did good. Motorola needs to up the ante to win me back. I'd love to have one, I have the money, but I'm not buying a half working tablet no matter how great it can or will be. I don't buy electronics on potential.

I'd also like to say, everyone bashing apple. I have 2 win 7 laptops(hp / dell), and a win 7 desktop I don't use anymore. My wife has a macbook pro 17. The only one we can keep in our lap after a year is the macbook pro. Both laptops after a year had the batteries go bad even with proper care and conditioning of the batteries. One that you have to keep plugged in gets so hot it will cause 1st degree burns if you don't put a fan on it, that is if it doesn't cut off. My wife's macbook pro is 2 years old and still kicking like its brand new. Battery life is great, its perfect. I feel a lot more comfortable with the battery life on an IPAD2 then any other tablet just from experience.

For those that havent owned one or even used one, the iPad does work and it works very well. But so does the Xoom. If you're a die hard Android fan, the choice is obvious. I find myself in the middle, I like both OS's just about equally. Heck, just last year I repurchased the Nexus One 4 times and between that I was using iPhones. It's tough, they are both great OS's IMO.

I loved the Nexus One and, wished I never got rid of it. The best thing for me now is to, have a Android phone (which is pure Google) and Apple device for the tablet. I'm a I.T person - mostly networking - but not programming so, I never got into rooting a phone, although I have thought about trying to become a developer.

One of the big reasons I wanted the Xoom was for more storage and, that gave me an excuse to try out a new android device. However, it doen't even sell right now with the sd-card slot working. I can buy a 64GB - wi-fi only - Ipad 2 and, be happy with that because; I can use it with my Clear Ispot (which thankfully I hadn't canceled yet) or tether it to my T-mobile Mytouch 4G(with unlimited data) and not be locked down by Verizon.

To date the Nexus One is still one of my top 3 favorite phones. HTC did an excellent job with it. I had the Nexus S and although pure Google is wonderful, Samsung build was pathetic compared to the N1

Unlike you though I didn't attack or insult anyone on this forum (or this thread) specifically. I'm just posting my opinion in generalities. You seem to forget where you are. This is an Android forum, not an Apple forum. You MIGHT just read a few anti Apple posts here...if you get butt-hurt that's your fault, not mine :)

To the OP, well written. I respect your opinion, and even more I respect how you presented it.

Personally I love my Xoom and am not likely to purchase any Apple products, but it's hard to really gauge the value (or possibly the lack thereof) of the Xoom at this point. Once all the features are enabled and more tablet specific apps are available, we'll see. For now, I'm happy and excited for the near future.

Thank you Natai. I share your same sentiment. I am really excited to see how to Xoom takes off.

I home the tablet space inst like the phonespace. I keep here people scream out
"in six months the iphone will be out specd"

"quadcore"

The phone game is a totally different one then the tablet game. while most people don't mind buying a new phone, its not safe to flood the space with multiple android tablets. in six months i shouldn't be seeing the xoom 2. then you start to run into the problem that current android phones have having a dual core phone running a OS not designed for it.

Also i'm hioping someone makes one of those ipad covers for android.

Exactly. Regarding the Blackberry Playbook, I really have a gut feeling that it's going to fail. I hope I am wrong but I just am VERY unsure about it.

Unless Research in Motion charges things drastically in build and user interface I have to agree.

You have to think about who's going to be mainly buying the playbook. enterprise so they have a market.

See thats the problem with the android tablets they can only effectively compete in one market while the ipad, touchpad, and playbook can be used in multiple markets.

Same here. Remember the Storm? And the Storm 2? Goodness. Best Blackberry I ever owned was the good old blue colored 7290. Years later there isnt much difference from then. And I agree, RIM needs to make some bigger changes.
