Fascinate Froyo Speculation and Rumors

I think when my last phone contract is up, Jan 2013, I won't be sticking with Verizon.

Same here, once our current contracts are up, I will definitely investigate other options. I was with AT&T for two years before Verizon, and despite all the criticisms they get, my personal experience was that AT&T's service was far better than Verizon's. Verizon's network may have broader coverage, but where AT&T did cover, the signal strength and call quality was much better.

Verizon very much comes across as a company that's so big it really doesn't need to concern itself with customer service.

Even the Samsung Intercept is getting an official Froyo release before the Fascinate. It's laughable.

The Samsung Intercept on Sprint has been running Froyo for quite some time now right? It's the Virgin Mobile version that's getting Froyo now. Granted the fact that Sprint even bothers to update their prepaid line at all and that it's STILL faster than Verizon is somewhat troubling.

I agree, VZW is so bad, that they do not help any customers. VZW has lied to me so many times, that I am fed up. I hope ATT and Tmo do not merge, cause I will go to Tmo and the the Nexus (which ever it is at that time) when my contract ends.

I bet apples to oranges that when the Droid Charge comes out, the update cycle on that phone will be better than the Fascinate. I think someone on this thread said it that VZW does hold the Droid line a lot higher in regards to support than any other Android phone in their lineup. We know that the Dinc, the X and Droid 2 all got timely updates to 2.2 and may even see 2.3. I'm pretty sure that the Droid lineup will be kept Bing free and any other Android phone on VZW that is not labeled "Droid" will be free game in terms of Bing.
I love my Sammy Fascinate, and the Devs have done a great job with it. If I had to do it over, I would still get the Fascinate. Wouldn't change a thing. But it is kind of sad that VZW pretty much has forgotten this wonderful and awesome phone and left it in a support black hole. I hope they don't make the same mistake with the Droid Charge...

You are correct. I believe DroidXcon, Kevin Gossett, and Chris3D have all said that in different locations in these forums. Wonder what it takes to get the Droid branding? $$$$$$$$$$

I have an AT&T Blechberry that is issued by my employer. I live and work in the Boston area. I can't hold a call on VZW, but the AT&T signal is almost 100% reliable.

VZW, fool me once (Dare), shame on you. Fool me twice (Fascinate), shame on me. When this contract is up, I am porting to AT&T. BTW, I've been on VZW and its corporate predecessors since 1988 or 1989. Bye, VZW. It's been real, but it ain't been real nice.

Just made the switch to the stock Froyo build and I'm glad I did. I'm in the same boat as the rest of you in that I likely won't be sticking with Verizon once my contract's up. Froyo was speculated to be out as early as November last year, but fast-forward 6 months and we're still stuck [officially] with Eclair. I left them years ago for their ridiculous amount of proprietary bloat and technical constraints, and this time around it's for their awful product support.

Unless they have a phone that's simply too good to pass up, I'll more or less be avoiding Verizon at all costs from here on out..

The community, on the other hand, has been awesome and I'd like to thank everyone who put together all the guides and shared their knowledge on improving the phone's usability. I've been able to troll as an android noob rather successfully. ;)

Eeek, don't say the t word :p When you are content with just reading threads to gain infromation and stay in the background without posting, you are lurking. Don't want to get the t label. Glad you have come forward out of the shadows. We don't bite here at AC.........at least not much. Welcome to Android Central.

Yeah I am in the same boat as you. I have 4 lines with 3 of them smartphones for my family plan. I priced out a comparable plan with Sprint and I can save close to $50/month. I just got the sunday ads and BestBuy has the Fascinate for a $1. I think that might be another indication as to how much VZW cares about it. Even the Dinc and X are pricier than that. It's just sad. The hardware for this phone is amazing and it has alot of potential. Even TouchWiz isnt so bad, I'll even swallow Bing but 2.1 is a shame.

I am actually in shock over the total "culture of lies" that has overtaken VZN. I have been with them for ages (eons in computer / cell phone years), and my overall experience has been above avg. I moved over to VZN after a short stint with Sprint and Voicestream (Tmobile), I moved because of extremely poor reception on both of those services. On VZN, call quality was much improved and customer service (when i needed it occasionally was decent).

HOWEVER... since Novermber of 2010 that has changed so dramatically it is like dealing with a totally new company. I have been lied to so many times, over so many issues that my head is still spinning. I was assured by a VZN sales rep that Froyo would be available within 2 weeks of my Fascinate purchase, I was lied to about plan pricing, mailing labels, rebates, adjustments to my bill and much more... by 6 seperate reps over 3 months... and on top of all that.. I had VZN reps call ME the liar, even when exactly what i was telling them was on their notes.

The thing that stinks is that i live in an area with only 2 cell companies. VZN and a shaky little company called Cellular One... no Sprint, no Tmo, no ATT. If there was a decent prepaid service i might even consider that at this point.

My buddy got the Free Fascinate from Best buy yesterday and wasn't happy that a couldn't run flash on 2.1 so he called Verizon. According to the lady he spoke with Android 2.2 had to many problems so there skipping it and going right to 2.3. She said within the next two months it will be pushed out. I dont know if she was lying just to get him off the phone or its true?
It sure would be nice if its true. I flashed his phone to 2.2 just to shut him up for now :-)

Yeah, and I'll be using it when NASA sends one of the retired Space Shuttle orbiters to my front yard rather than to some museum...sorry, I'm from Missouri on this issue. :-\

Hmmmm I think this thread might have a field day with this. I guess it's possible but the way things have gone with this phone, I wouldn't hold my breath. If this did happen, I would still prefer a debloated version of it.

Even if they were to drop the update today most of us have tasted root and wouldn't stick with stock anyway. Bravo to our devs. Looking forward to Gingerbread from those that have OUR interests at heart

I agree!! Dont know what Im going to do when I upgrade and have a stock phone full of Verizon crap.... Wait I do... Gonna ROOT!!! These devs. are awesome!

I'd be inclined to believe that vzw ditched froyo for gb in the sense that the promise of 2.2 has gone unanswered for so long PLUS we got a bloated froyo leak which probably happened right as big red stopped testing, so it was less of a risk to get out into the wild.

but then again, we are talking about this 2.3 information coming from a rep.

so nevermind me. just throwin fuel on the fire

*moonwalks out of topic*

My reasoning tells me that this is true.. Froyo is taking way too long to come out for this device, especially with all the other Galaxy S phones updated. In addition there are too many Fascinate people calling both Vzw and Samsung daily to complain for them not to have noticed...I have a feeling that a jump straight to gbread is probably what will happen. (At least the thread inside of me that hopes)

Then again, this came from a Vzw service rep...which makes the probability around 40%. I feel I get help about 40% of the time I have called with a technical issue. The rest of the time, they can't find the question I have in their automated computer screen helper that they're using..

AND if they can't get Froyo to gel with our phone, why would they all of a sudden get Gingerbread to work flawlessly?
