Fascinate not receiving emails

Hi, managed to move to the Fascinate however having an issue with the emails. It will not alert me when I get an email. As a matter of fact it doesn't even seem to be checking for new emails. So far the only way to check is to open either the email or gmail app, go into the email, and then do a refresh. It's been like this since I got it last Saturday.

I've removed the emails accts and re-added them back on, but still no luck. So far the Fascinate will not receive email on its own unless I go in and tell the phone to check for emails. Any ideas on what might be happening?

Thanks, will give K9 a try. Also I just got done talking to the sales rep who sold me the Fascinate. Oddly enough they actually knew about this issue. Recommended an app called Touchdown for a temp fix, but will give the K9 email app a try.

For Exchange it doesn't get any better than Touchdown. Touchdown doesn't work with POP or IMAP though.

Thats really weird cause mine is working fine. Just using Gmail. Have my other accounts forwarding thru my gmail account. It seems to get the email almost in real time. Using the stock Gmail client.

Just a silly question, have you removed all your account and email information from the Samsung Email app and just used the Gmail app by itself? I wonder if that might have something to do with it?

I wonder why these email apps the device manufacturers put in there don't offer push on them, I found that annoying with the Incredible as well.

Did you go into Account settings and adjust Email check frequency? By default is set to never.

To do so: Go into the application and touch the menu button, then select the account settings button. Look for Email check frequency, select it and choose how often you want it checking.

The email check frequency was set to 5 mins, I removed all the acct info the Samsung email app, I've removed and added the email acct on and off. The Samsung email app was not pulling emails at all unless I went in there and selected refresh. Last night I reset everything back to factory default settings and no luck.

Like I said I called the VZW sales rep that upgraded me earlier today and she told me that she found out about this issue. Right now I'm using K9 and it's working like a charm. So I guess I'll use this till VZW or Samsung fixes the issue, then again I'm still within their 30 day period and might move to something else.

Works fine for me. I got both yahoo imap and gmail setup. For email all day without issue. I did notice by default the yahoo imap is not set to auto check email. I had to change it from never to eve five. Worked since then.

I wanted to jump in on this because I just got my fascinate two days ago and I LOVE it, except for this. My job requires me to respond to emails immediately, and when I go to refresh after an hour of not looking at my phone, ten emails come up! So frustrating. I hope 2.2 fixes this, but I have 30 days to return this phone and I don't want to miss that chance if 2.2 does not fix this issue. So I would like to ask, did Touchdown or K9 work for you? The email server I'm using is Godaddy, so it's not gmail or hotmail. I'd prefer to not have all my emails go thru gmail if possible. Any thoughts?
And yes, it's set to check every five minutes, and yes I've tried deleted all my incoming and outgoing server info and re-entering it.
PS I don't even know what POP or IMAP is, I just know where to find the settings for those on my godaddy account.
PPS This is why I got rid of my HTC Eris, I wanted a phone that worked!!

I was having the exact same problem for the first 2 days i had the phone. trying to use the stock e-mail app for POP3 accounts.

If you are using Task Killer it could be the problem. Once I un-installed the task killer that the verizon store loaded onto the phone for me when i bought it problem solved. (the Verizon store around here installs advanced task killer on every droid they sell before you walk out of the store).

It seems as though the stock email app uses several other background processes such as the "clock" app to count every 5, 10 or 15 minutes and do an e-mail check. Without clock running, it won't ever check for e-mail.

E-mail is the most important part of the phone to me, so it was vital i fixed it. Here is what worked for me.

1. Un-install any task killers
2. Remove your e-mail accounts from the phone
3. Reboot your phone
4. Re-setup your e-mail accounts
5. Yeay! It works as intended.

M1AHD, I wish this were the case, but it isn't.

I've not downloaded any task killers but I've noted the email app will not pick up either my POP3 or my Gmail account. I have used the original task manager that came preloaded on the phone on occasion, though.

It's odd, sometimes it seems to work, other times not. Yesterday I received emails during the day, but nothing after 5pm last night. I received emails at 4:30 & 6:00 this morning, but didn't get anything even after pressing the refresh button until I used my Gmail account to compose a message to my POP3 account. After that, all of the emails I was looking for finally came in.

I had this experience when I was using TouchWiz, though I've switched over to LauncherPro a few days ago. I'm not rooted, and I've had the Fascinate since day 1.

Just to cover our bases here... You have downloaded / applied the new OTA update that was just released this past wednesday (9/22) ?

EDIT: CP2 ---- between this thread and the thread about signal strength it seems like you are having many of the same problems I did... I've only had the replacement phone ~18hrs so far, but so far it seems like all these problems disappeared. Might be something you want to look into / consider if nothing software wise is working.

For email I'm using 1 yahoo, 1 hotmail, and one ISP (Bellsouth), touchdown pretty much didn't work so well with my yahoo and bellsouth. K9 worked ok for the first 3 to 4 days and then it started to act all sporadic. Some times I have to refresh, other times it receives ok. Haven't gotten update yet, did get call from my sales rep. She told me that update was released for Fascinate earlier this week. I'm going to give it till the end of the weekend. If nothing happens I'm just going to go back and have them exchange it out for another one.

I did get the new update, and it hasn't helped anything. If anything, email delivery has been even more sporadic since the update.

The closest company store is a 35min drive from here, but I may stop by a retailer thats here and see if I can test another Fascinate there tomorrow. I hope I don't have to swap the phone out, the sad part is I just sent another still-boxed Fascinate back to VZW yesterday (they sent me two by accident...)

I'll report if it fixes anything.

The Fascinate comes stock with a Task Manager - I did not download Advanced Task Killer. When I go into applications - it gives me the option to "Force Stop" the task manager, should I try that?

The other email programs aren't very good either. I've tried K-9 and MailDroid, and they both have problems.

No that isn't necessary. The stock "task manager" is good, and I would suggest using it. It will only allow you to shutdown programs you opened and have not yet shutdown.

Most of the "task killers" from the Market will allow you to kill many of the system tasks that run in the background for proper phone operation. --- The stock "task manager" does not even display these background operations so you won't be able to close them on accident.
