So I just thought I'd put in my 2c for anyone trying to decide which phone to switch to. I just received my Incredible 2 this afternoon, it came brand new in retail packaging and, luckily, still had 2.2 on it (meaning it was a piece of case to turn off security and root it).
My impressions on the phone so far are pretty good - the build quality is much higher, it feels very solid. Same size screen as the Fascinate, but the phone overall seems much smaller. It's actually slightly thicker, but feels thinner because the thickness is in the raised hump in the back. Screen seems just as bright as the fascinate, although the blacks aren't quite as black. The Fascinate's screen is clearly better, but this honestly isn't much of a downgrade.
The phone itself is very fast and very smooth. Even before I removed all the Verizon bloat, it was totally smooth. The same can't be said of the Fascinate, as we all know. Signal strength seems about on par with the Fascinate, which is to say a little on the week side. No better, no worse, I'm getting pretty much the same dbm as on the Fascinate.
There's a real notification LED, which looks like it'll be handy, lighting up the capacitive buttons always seemed like a hackish workaround. Speaking of the capacitive buttons, on the Inc 2 they actually rotate to match the orientation of the screen - portrait or landscape. Slick little trick.
Overall, I'm very happy with the new phone. I think for anyone who thought the size of the Fascinate was pushing it, and who doesn't live in an area soon to have 4G service, they'd probably be very happy with the Incredible. One thing to keep in mind, if you get one that has 2.3 pre-loaded, there's not yet an easy way to root it. It can be done with a hardware thing, but not yet in software. I got lucky since mine came with 2.2, but do beware.
Hope this might help someone make a decision.
