Fascinate Replacement: Droid Charge or Droid Incredible2

Hmmm...
the droid charge I got was brand new. Im starting to lean on switching it for the Dinc2
Im eligible for an upgrade and Im sure come fall time, better 4g phones will come out and to compete with whatever iphone5 comes out with

I do like that GB is on the Inc2 already...as with samsung..i remember froyo took forever and it felt like it was always the last of the bunch of phones to get updates

* Eligible for an upgrade in september (not now lol), this is the warranty replacement

Any further thoughts?
someone from the dinc2 said the following got me thinking:
"You are in the enviable position of only having to put up with your choice for a few months. Given that, why not jump over to HTC for a bit and give Sense a try for a while. That way you will have a broader experience to decide on your upgrade device in September. "

Got my charge today....brand new in the box....got nervous when the fedex girl have me two boxes....was thinking refurbished...the second box had a new sim card in it......life is good....

Ordered a charge for myself and the wife. Looking forward to the fassy's big brother.

Another GB leak came out today for the Charge...I know it is Sammy and VZW but I would guess that it isnt too far off from official. I havent installed it yet (giving Altered Beast a decent run through) but those who have say it is stable

If you guys are getting denied a Charge because they're all out. Wait until late afternoon on Monday. When i went to the store to order mine they told me they were out and gave me an option to wait a few days. I then called Monday morning and said they could only do the Incredible 2 or Droid X2. I told them i will wait a few more days for the Charge to become restocked. They then offered me a refurbished Fascinate  , I refused and said i could wait. Gave them another call later on monday and was able to get my Charge order through. I am currently a very happy owner of a Droid Charge! The super AMOLED+ screen is fantastic and it's just the perfect size. :)

Yeah I have this charge rooted already......sweet and way faster than the fascinate....just gotta get a new case....

@ ebernedo86 Got my Inc 2 yesterday around noon. Played with and tweaked it well into the evening. My thoughts on this phone is that its a pretty solid phone. The screen didn't look much different than the fascinate. It feels a little more solid than the fascinate, not plasticy(is that a even a word?) and it seems pretty quick and snappy. Was missing a few things my fascinate had but found good replacements in the market. One of them being "swype", I've got so used to it that I can't do without it. Gps locked on in a snap. I was like wow my fascinate always took awhile. The volume rocker and power buttons are kinda stealthy, like they don't really stand out. I kinda like it and kinda don't. It makes for a sleek look but I find myself searching for them when I need to use them. But with frequent use I will get used to it. Everything else seems satisfactory to me. Nice phone overall.

I called verizon and they wanted to troubleshoot the problem before they give me the option to get the dinc2 or any of the other phones. Since they will want the info. from the about screen I will need to get back to stock ED04 or whatever the current version is. Does anyone have a link to get me back to FULL stock via ODIN or tell me what I should say to them.

Here's a screenshot if my phone, which I upgraded to official ED04, so if they ask for anything, just give them the letters/numbers off this.

So I just thought I'd put in my 2c for anyone trying to decide which phone to switch to. I just received my Incredible 2 this afternoon, it came brand new in retail packaging and, luckily, still had 2.2 on it (meaning it was a piece of case to turn off security and root it).

My impressions on the phone so far are pretty good - the build quality is much higher, it feels very solid. Same size screen as the Fascinate, but the phone overall seems much smaller. It's actually slightly thicker, but feels thinner because the thickness is in the raised hump in the back. Screen seems just as bright as the fascinate, although the blacks aren't quite as black. The Fascinate's screen is clearly better, but this honestly isn't much of a downgrade.

The phone itself is very fast and very smooth. Even before I removed all the Verizon bloat, it was totally smooth. The same can't be said of the Fascinate, as we all know. Signal strength seems about on par with the Fascinate, which is to say a little on the week side. No better, no worse, I'm getting pretty much the same dbm as on the Fascinate.

There's a real notification LED, which looks like it'll be handy, lighting up the capacitive buttons always seemed like a hackish workaround. Speaking of the capacitive buttons, on the Inc 2 they actually rotate to match the orientation of the screen - portrait or landscape. Slick little trick.

Overall, I'm very happy with the new phone. I think for anyone who thought the size of the Fascinate was pushing it, and who doesn't live in an area soon to have 4G service, they'd probably be very happy with the Incredible. One thing to keep in mind, if you get one that has 2.3 pre-loaded, there's not yet an easy way to root it. It can be done with a hardware thing, but not yet in software. I got lucky since mine came with 2.2, but do beware.

Hope this might help someone make a decision.

@Chris3D Glad you like your new phone, Chris--congrats! I owned the Incredible 2 for a day, before I got cheap and decided to get a free Fascinate with contract. That seemed like somewhat of a mistake, that is, until Verizon now offered me a Charge replacement. As many will say, they are all decent phones, but the Fascinate has had just one-too-many quirks, and the missed calls broke the camel's back.

One thing I did not care too much for was the sound of the caller's voice on the DInc2. Hopefully this is not the case for you. Then again, the sidetone (audio feedback) on the Fascinate has been annoying, but at least the audio coming through has been great. I hope the Charge pulls through in the audio-quality sector.

I agree with the nice build quality of the DInc2. And great feel in the hand. If 4G, I would have gone with that one.

I totally agree, in some ways I'll be sad to see the Fascinate go, it was so easy to root and so hard to screw up, the screen was great, but software-wise it just seemed like one issue after another, first with the GPS, then the endless delays in getting 2.2, the driver issues, now the missed calls. When the opportunity came to jump... well, I didn't think twice. Going to try to get my wife's Fascinate swapped for the Incredible too, but I'd be lying to deny part of me hopes they release ED05 over the weekend and solve the issue so she'll be stuck with it. It'd make a great little pda/media player once it's retired for phone use.

Yea, there is a slight digital sound to the incoming audio, but I'm confidant I can get used to it, especially given all the pluses of the phone.

The build quality really is great, and I'm fine without 4G. It won't be in my area anytime soon, and I downgraded to the 150 meg a month plan to save money, since I'm almost always in wifi range, so even higher speed mobile data isn't terribly important to me.

Good luck with the Charge though, if it's improved even over the Fascinate, the screen must be amazing.

After talking with the 3rd rep I was able to get my DInc2 on order. Thanks for the info. For some reason my buddy got his shipped next day, but mine is shipping 3-5 days USPS. Not sure why, but I don't mind waiting a couple extra days. Fascinate was fun, but I will be glad to get a way more stable phone.

The reps all probably have some leeway in what they can offer. I had mine shipped USPS too, and received it in two days. Good luck with it, hopefully it'll come with 2.2 incase you plan to root it right away.

I had the original Dinc (loved it) and gave it to my wife to upgrade to the Fascinate...I have never been happy with the performance of the Fascinate....I'm not trying Samsung again and 4g won't come to my area for a long time...

...I have a Dinc2 on the way to replace the Fascinate

I cannot believe this deal!

Yeah...in the same boat. I actually have 4g in my area widely spread, but still went with the DInc2.
