Faster finger print sensor since new Nov update

Expect it in December if not US and Japan

I'm very happy with the performance of the FPS now. Since I keep the phone on my left side while working I also registered my left index finger making it a lot more convenient to unlock than just using thumbs. In total I have 5 fingerprints set up. Left and right thumbs registered twice and then my left index finger once.

I've noticed a marked improvement in the performance of the FPS, and Smart Lock also seems to be performing much better. That may be because the phone's location is not reporting low accuracy anymore. It may be that Google fixed all my peeves in one update! I knew that they would be able to fix the issues I had noted, but I was surprised at the mid-month update. Kudos Google!

Not to sound stupid, but you (presumably) have eight other fingers, and the phone will remember five, so why only thumbs?

I have had my best luck with 4 right thumbs entered and one left thumb (Which always works).

As JHiker says it is so awkward for me to use another digit other than the thumb, I could swipe down and enter the PIN faster or use my left thumb...

I never use 2 hands for the phone.

It is the kind thing that if it doesn't work 100% of the time, I might as well not use it at all. I need to check my phone quickly a hundred times a day to check if something needs immediate attention or not. I would prefer not to have everything show on the lock screen as that might be a solution.

If your a white collar person with clean hands it is fine. I am retired but do projects that effect my hands everyday and between washing my hands 100's of times and moisturizing, this FP reader of mine is having trouble. I could count on one hand the #of fails on the P5.

It is not a deal breaker and is specific to some folks, I have faith that Google will fix it in software eventually...The last update this week did nothing for me.

I don't buy flagship phones to have to "get used to" a lesser functionality because it is undeniably less reliable and not as quick.

All "flagships" have had front facing fingerprint scanners for a while now. So having one doesn't make it any less of a flagship. Its all opinion in the end. As I actually prefer it on the power button. As I can still unlock without lifting it from a desk or table.

The Pixel 4 and 5 fingerprint reader was 99% reliable and worked in a fraction of a second every time.

My Pixel 4 did not have a fingerprint reader. It had terrific Soli face recognition.

I had no problems with the P6 fingerprint scanner right from the start. I think I might see a tiny bit of speed increase after the recent update. All the hype had me concerned that I would feel that the in-screen FP reader would be a downgrade from the Soli radar face rec. But that wasn't the case. I don't feel downgraded at all.

I have not even had the update yet. Unlocked P6 Pro in the UK.

Could be a plan mate. Let it loose on the Americans first with all its rough edges then once it's refined, release the Gold version to us Brits. 👍

I just got my 6 pro. Had to wait for it to update. Phone updated about three times. My FPS worked just like my Pixel 6, which wasn't that bad for me. The update does seem to improve it some.

Now works better for me if I put my thumb lower. Not how I remember setting it up.

Really struggling with the sensor myself. My brother got fed up and moved on from it. My experience is, sometimes it works great and at other times it is downright miserable. It barely works when I'm in the car.. not sure what that means, but more times than not I'm finding myself being forced to input my passcode. This was a rather large oversight on Google's part. Outside of that I also have ram management issues. I want to like the phone, as there's lots to enjoy about it, but it's hard some days.

I may end up setting up my watch and ear buds as trusted devices to bypass it. But for now I'm continuing to use it.

Sorry you're having problems! When you're in the car, it might have to do with the angle your finger makes when you're trying to tap the screen (assuming the phone is on a mount). It's probably more of the tip of the finger when you're touching the phone. You might want to try deleting the current fingerprints and having the phone relearn them, making sure to focus on the tip of the finger when prompted during that process.

What RAM management issues are you having?
