Faster finger print sensor since new Nov update

Really struggling with the sensor myself. My brother got fed up and moved on from it. My experience is, sometimes it works great and at other times it is downright miserable. It barely works when I'm in the car.. not sure what that means, but more times than not I'm finding myself being forced to input my passcode. This was a rather large oversight on Google's part. Outside of that I also have ram management issues. I want to like the phone, as there's lots to enjoy about it, but it's hard some days.

I have the issue when driving as well!

When I'm in the car, I use my car as a trusted device, so it disables the FPS. Works pretty well for me.

Sorry you're having problems! When you're in the car, it might have to do with the angle your finger makes when you're trying to tap the screen (assuming the phone is on a mount). It's probably more of the tip of the finger when you're touching the phone. You might want to try deleting the current fingerprints and having the phone relearn them, making sure to focus on the tip of the finger when prompted during that process.

What RAM management issues are you having?

I appreciate your feedback. I am wondering if it has to do with the sunlight when I'm in the car. Just seems to be where I struggle most with it. I try all parts of my finger.

With regards to RAM issues. It's similar to the pixel 3 where apps don't stay open after a few minutes. It's probably more annoying to me than the sensor. I did a search online and found a few people experiencing the problem on reddit, but it's definitely not something that's mentioned a lot. My brother also has the issue. It grates my cheese.

Sorry for the double post.

You mean the apps don't seem to stay in RAM in the background? Or do you mean that when you have an app open in the foreground, after a few minutes of inactivity it'll actually close out to the homescreen?

If only, lol. I am hoping the rumours of them adding face unlock are true TBH as this FPS does grate the longer you use it, would not be super secure but I do not need it to be.

The sensor still absolutely hates my right thumb--even after the update. I have erased and rescanned it a number of times. I have tried using two prints for hit, and nothing improves it. I'd say it works less than 50% of the time. For my left thumb and my to index fingers, it's probably 90%+ success rate. Crazy (and annoying). It's the only thing about this phone that is frustrating me.

I'm going to suggest one last thing for that thumb that's giving you issues before you scan it moisturize it with some lotion regular skin lotion I guess and try to register it after and see if it helps.. I'm sure you've done everything possible to try to get it to work so far This is just a thought.

I'll try that. Thanks so much for the advice!!

Correct, they don't stay open after a couple minutes in the background. Does nobody else experience this issue?

I haven't noticed -- when I go to the App Overview and switch to another app, it switches pretty seamlessly, even if it's been a little while.

Do you have any power-saving modes turned on, or 3rd party battery-saver or "RAM booster" apps installed?

Come to think of it, I'm only seeing it with the browser. I'm using Firefox.. I guess I should try some others and see if I'm having the same issue. Thank you, light bulb came on when you mentioned "app overview"

You can also try turning off Battery Optimization for Firefox in the system settings.

Maybe you're using an app that is a big RAM hog, and the system is therefore closing other apps out of RAM to compensate. Activate your Developer Options (by going to Settings>About Phone and tapping Build Number 7 times), then go back to the System menu to find the Developer Options. Select the Memory option, then Memory Used By Apps. What are the top memory users?

1. OS 1.9GB
2. Google 451MB
3. Android 410MB
4. Google Play services 299MB
5. Google play store 292MB

That all looks normal. Are you using the Back button to exit out of these apps, or just the App Overview to switch between apps?

Just got my P6 yesterday. FP censor working perfectly. Just be sure to press and hold. Its not a light tap like with some other censors.
