Few Questions before taking ICS leak

these data drops are starting to get beyond annoying for me. I want to go to ICS but I have two problems. First, is it worth it if ICS ota update comes soon? I heard rumors of August 8th? Second, my phone is currently rooted at .905. If the new ICS comes ota, will I have to unroot before updating? I'm rooted with motofail, updated to 905, and then retained root with voodoo root keeper. Also, if I do decide to take the leaked ICS, will i retain all my apps and root? and what will happen when ICS finally does come ota, will i have to reverrt back to the way I am now, at 905?

The ICS update for the Bionic is scheduled to begin in Q3 2012. We are in Q3 2012 right now. Motorola basically has until September 30th to make good on their word.

Personally, I would go back to stock if you're going to flash from 905 to 232 (note: 232 not 235). If you flash to 235, there's currently isn't a way to get back to 905. You will need to be on 905 to take the official OTA.

I had the same conflict so I was going to stay on 905 until the OTA came out. Since I've gotten the Nexus 7 tablet, the lag on Gingerbread 905 became more obvious and I couldn't take it any more. ICS definitely is more fluid and fixes some other issues I had so I went back to the leak. I'm staying there until the OTA comes out. It works well. My next phone is definitely going to be a Nexus though.

Actually, the date of release is stated as early Q3, which would be before August 15th. However, that doesn't mean it will be released on time.

I'm pretty sure that particular piece of information is now incorrect. I believe they got a FXZ to 905 working now. It's been a while since I read that thread though, but I know a lot of people were taking the 235 plunge now. EDIT: I went back and looked, they have made it possible to go to 235 and then MOVE FORWARD, but you're correct that you can't move back still.

As for the OP - If you install 232 over your current build, at least in stock, my wife's phone kept everything when I upgraded her. That doesn't mean that everything is going to work with the ICS version. Some things don't swing over unfortunately.

If you go to 232, and the OTA comes out, I am going to give it a week before I see or don't see the OTA coming to me. If I don't see it for a while, I'm going to go back to the 902 FXZ and then take the OTAs up as far as they'll take me.

As for the data drops, unfortunately I haven't experienced them in a LONG time now, so I can't say for sure whether 905 or 232 is better.

Finally, if you lose root, you can grab root again from RAZRsEdge - That's how I got it. And, if you have a Titanium Back up from 905 almost everything will restore in the 232.

Once you are on an ICS leak, I do NOT recommend restoring any data from a GB backup. You will definitely experience issues. Apps only will be ok, as long as none are system apps.

Yeah, I agree with what he said. I knew that, just didn't remember to say that. Thanks for catching that.
