i have my Galaxy connect thru the provided data cord. I have my phone set to "connected as a media device" and it comes up on my computer as a "sph-l710" with a camera icon on it. i have transferred all of the data i cared to save onto my computer using a card reader and reformatted my sd card. I am running windows XPand all of my other android phones have worked fine. This is something i have just run into on the SGS3, if someone could point me in the correct direction or at the very least let me know what i am doing wrong, if anything. It would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS!!!!

Google for the Samsung drivers. I think I've seen that recommended before. I haven't used the phone under XP but under Win 7 it works perfectly fine showing both the internal memory and the external SD card.

When you connect to the PC, do you get a USB icon showing up in the notification bar of the phone? If so, pull down the bar and see what it says for that notification. If you tap the notification itself, you should be able to change between media device and MTP. MTP will allow file transfers.

I have but a new iPhone,i want to know how can I backup data from Android to computer, and then I can transfer all files from computer to new iPhone?I know this is very hard to do.

To backup from Android (on the phone) to your PC, we would first need to know what OS you're running on your PC.

As to transferring files from PC to iPhone, this is the Samsung S3 forum, not the iPhone forums. While you might get an answer here, you would probaby do better checking with Apple forums.

What sort of data are you talking about? Things like pictures and music files are no problem. But if you're talking about contacts, text messages, emails, or some other items it will depend on how you have them stored, what applications you use, and more. You need to provide us a lot more information if we're going to help you.

Thanx for the info but when I have it set on MTP , it doesn't allow me transfer anything , no window pops up on the computer either.
When it's set on PTP , the window pops up on the computer and you can choose what you want to do , but MTP - nothing .
What I need help with is transferring or saving files like MS Word , Excel , RTF , etc .
I installed an App so I can save and edit MS Word , Excel, etc Files but when I try to save anything from my Yahoo mail ,
it doesn't let me choose that App to save those files . It saves files somewhere in "online storage " and I cannot find it
The easiest would be just some kind of App or way to transfer from computer to phone .
I have Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and Windows XP Professional on the computer.
Thanks for any help

In order to use MTP on Windows XP you'll need to install additional software - go to https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...ad%2Fdetails.aspx%3Fid%3D19153&token=ylmiyHQ1 to start.
Alternately, you could use something like:
Drive: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.google.android.apps.docs
OR
Dropbox: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.dropbox.android
and avoid connecting the phone at all.
One of these methods should allow you to copy any files from your phone to your PC.
Edit: there are also apps like WiFi File Explorer PRO: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.dooblou.WiFiFileExplorerPRO (there's also a free version) that will allow you to use a browser on the PC to access files on the phone, as long as it's on the same Wi-Fi network.
