Android Central Question

Two days ago I downloaded some videos on Google Chrome. I could access them without a problem, except two days later they are gone.

-When I opened the MX Player, the folder "Downloads" was there, but just for about a second, then it disappeared from the library.
-I still found the messages of successfully completing the download on my phone, that message where clicking on it will lead you to the Download-App. However on that App, I couldn't find those videos either.
-I downloaded a file manager, but again couldn't find the files, I did however find the thumbnails.
-I downloaded a new unrelated video on Google Chrome just to test. It was put in the download folder and I can access it without a problem, however the other videos are still not there.

I'll be sincerely grateful if someone could tell me what's going on and what I can do to find those files. I absolutely have to find them.

Is it possible you delete by accident?
The only thing I can suggest is downloading a file recovery app but some of the files could have been overwritten by now. Since you downloaded from somewhere is it not possible to download them again? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question but just trying all angles
