So after 6 months I decided to root my phone. I couldn't stand the sprint bloatware anymore and low memory icon.

I followed all the steps in the sticky (//forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/111357-guide-how-root-evo-4g-gingerbread-via-revolutionary.html), installed SuperUser and achieved root status and confirmed with Terminal Emulator, S-OFF in boot, made a backup, etc...

However, when i tried to remove the sprint bloatware, i followed the steps here (//forums.androidcentral.com/htc-evo-4g-rooting-roms-hacks/15702-how-removing-sprint-bloatware-root.html), but instead of using the 'Root Explorer' app, I tried to use ASTRO (i already have a file manager app, which was free), as it has delete capabilities, but i get an error message when i try to delete the apk for NASCAR, QIK, etc from the system/app folder.

Do i have to use root explorer and/or did i miss something else?

I feel like I've read almost every evo/sprint root/bloatware removal thread on here and consider myself to be an intermediate techhole, so frustration has set in. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky. I'd appreciate any help on this.

I also tried to put on CM7 and all i got was an endless loop skating alien and CM7mod image... i guess i'll stick with a constant rebooting Sense for now...

Have you tried using adb to remove the apk files?

Root explore is what works. That's the issue.

To install cm7, you must wipe data and cache in recovery before flashing the cm7 zip and gapps zip.

Titanium Backup worked for me too, but I've been rolling AOSP CM for as long as I can remember. :P

Titanium, root explorer, root uninstaller, and a few others work.

I'm an idiot. I used Titanium backup (free) to uninstall the Sprint Apps that i didnt want. the apps dont' appear on my phone and the apk files are not longer in the sysetm/app folder

I didn't free up as much space as i had hoped, but oh well.

After a backup, i'll try some CM7 fun again...

Thanks for the assistance though.

Sense takes up a lot of space which is why I use CM7. Go Launcher w/ Go Weather looks nice. Got my phone all ICS'd up just so I can fool myself until the real stuff comes out. :P

How did you go about the ICS fox?

Look for cm7 ICS in market. Then in your launcher settings change the theme or change cm7's theme.

I'm running Decks 1.3 but I think I'm going to five CM7 a try. I'll check out the ICS you told me about. Thanks!
