Well after sitting back and hearing all the good stuff about rooting I did it. I have a question though...I manually updated to Froyo (update.zip) then I rooted. Everything is fine, but I would like cm5. I've got rom manager ready. Can it be done even though I've manually updated? And when people say "wipe", wipe as in? ....or if you would just post a link to the procedure....that would be killer. Thanks in advance

Yes, you can get CM5 through ROM Manager. Wiping will erase everything on your device memory (apps, messages, settings, etc.) and install the ROM to a clean partition. There's an option in ROM Manger when you d/l CM5 (or any ROM) to wipe data and cache, and another to backup the current ROM.

Careful with the wipe... it will wipe EVERYTHING!! Make sure you back up everything that you might want to your SD card first.. like your apps.

I like My Backup Pro in order save your phone's "current state." You can backup your apps and your phone's data, to include texts, call history, etc. Also, don't worry about the data on your SD card. Its contents are untouched throughout the ROM switching process. Good luck!

Anthony is right; anything you want to keep from your device memory you need to backup. Titanium Backup (available in the market) is a great way to backup your apps, in my experience.
