Finally took the plunge and rooted

Is it really worth it? I'm scared that I might screw it up. But everyone seems to love it once it's rooted...why? What is better about it once you root the phone?

It's like being afraid of going on a rollercoaster, once you go on it, you want to go on more and more.

Once you are rooted, you get freedom on your phone. Things run faster, all the bloatware that Verizon puts on there is gone....nations embrace each other, hate stops and everyone has a job.....LOLOL

You could also find yourself single again! LOL My girl already complains a bit that I pay too much attention to my phone and Android forums.

Take a look at this first if you're still concerned about rooting. I rooted my Bolt a week after it's release and never looked back (to stock, that is) :D

During Christmas break when I have some free time and the updates have slowed down I'll consider joining the root community. I've feel right st home with the advanced users and software developers but I just fear that $100 deductible.

Welcome to the world of root:D and custom roms, root apps etc.. there is no going back once you get a taste of what your phone should be like and perform.

I rooted a couple of weeks ago. So glad I did. Can't stand the bloat and the slow updates pissed me off at one point.

While I'm not specifically familiar with the LG UI, the best way to get the experience you want is with a good launcher replacement. I'm using Go Launcher EX right now, but other popular ones are LauncherPro, ADW, and Zeam. With GO Launcher, I have a pretty great ICS theme right now.

The best performing launcher is LauncherPro. I really like GO Launcher also but it's laggy compared to LauncherPro, which is very snappy on my bolt. I wish Go Launcher had the performance of LauncherPro because they have a lot more themes!

I followed suit and rooted mine on Tuesday, couldn't believe what I had been missing. I haven't gotten gutsy enough to use an AOSP yet, still sticking with Sense ROMS, was thinking of seeing the difference of Forever, and Cubed, but hadn't gotten around to it yet. Congratulations though, glad another joined the bunch.

I REALLY want to root, but I have a couple of questions. Do I need to back up all of my apps? and do my contacts stay? i have downloaded bamf SoaB 1.03 where do i go from here?

Have you used it recently? I had that same complaint, but the most recent version is really nice. I've always been a LauncherPro Plus user, but I went back to GO Launcher and I'm very satisfied with it.

[Guide] How to Backup, Restore & Install ROMs on The Thunderbolt

Yes...first you need to install My Backup Pro then back up all apps and data. I would also install Titanium and do the same.

Have you flashed clockwork recovery from rom manager yet? If not start your rom manager app (installed during revolutionary root process) and choose flash clockwork recovery.

Now go to rom manager and choose back up rom. It should restart phone to clockwork restore and make a nandroid backup of your current rom, kernel, and all apps and data settings. Don't try to install the new rom until you are sure you have backed up apps and settings in my backup pro and titanium and saved a nandroid of your current rom.

I am running the BAMF Cubed 1.0.9, the only change is the phone answering mod from an older ROM, 2.1 I think.
Once you root it is important to backup before you change ROMs. It is very satisfying to restart, re-register Gmail, establish your wifi connection and then open market and see the market apps reloading. Also backup your phone contacts and they will reestablish on your new ROM. Takes a little time so don't begin the process just before work on a Monday morning. About an hour or even more is needed to get everything settled down. Do it when you won't be receiving a lot of calls as it does take your phone down for a few minutes at least.
I'm older than most of you (60) and I work with radios and computers all day long, I will say rooting makes any device better than whatever any given company offers.

I never thought rooting would be this great. Yea, I'm new to it but I found great pleasure de bloating my phone with a file manager. Then I flashed through ROM manager Liquid gingerbread v3.0. It's my first ROM and I don't see anything wrong with it. My Tbolt is what it was supposed to be.:)

Well, I finally took the plunge and rooted. I must admit I was fairly fearful of what might happen. I am currently running Das bamf forever 1.0.9 and I must say that I agree that the Thunderbolt should have come with that software native from HTC and Verizon. I got tired of waiting for HTC and Verizon to get their head straight about software and such. I am a rooter for life.

Thanks all for the encouragement.

Quietly Rooted!

Welcome to the enlightened side.

is anyone willing to help me root me thunderbolt so i can enjoy my phone like the rest of you that rooted? please help

I finally rooted a few months ago. My phone is alot faster now. I followed the guide HERE. The rooting process was fairly simple took me maybe an hour doing it while I was watching tv. I was afraid of bricking, but everything went fine.

There are only a few minor problems that I had I installed Gingeritis 3D 1.0 BetaVIII. The problems I have are the voicemail notifications (which has been fixed), NFL Mobile not working (has been fixed) and, hulu plus problems (can't download from marketplace cause it doesnt recognize my phone as being supported, got the apk and installed and it works up until the point when it tries to play an ad before a video. it tries to buffer it and theres some problem where it wont work. It is a known problem.)

Is there any easy way to update from the gingeritis I have to the current version with out flashing my whole phone?

I rooted about 2 weeks ago. I'm so pissed at myself that I didn't do it sooner! Phone runs faster, battery life is 10X better, cooler apps (chicks dig cool apps...) and I don't have all the **** that came stock that i couldn't get ride of. FREE mobile hotspot (YEAH F-U VERIZON) and so much more. It's an addiction... Running BAMF forever. big thanks to Natmill from youtube as he has been johnny on the spot answering questions and root process. Thanks to everyone in this community as everyone is so helpfull!
