I thought the search button was to search my phone, but apparently I was wrong. Let's say I have a number I want to search that I think might be on my phone...who does it belong to?
How do I do that?

Also, one thing I liked about my EnV Touch was I could open the thing, start typing, say for example, 'An' and it automatically started pulling up contacts that started with A, then n, then whatever followed. Is there a way, or an app I guess, to do that on the X?

Hold down the menu button (4-squares button) and the keyboard pops up and start typing. It'll search your phone as you type. Typing in numbers doesn't bring up a person's number, but typing their name should do the trick.

When i start typing it does the google search. I agree, it would be great of it also searched the phone. There's gotta be a way. If my blackberry can do it don't tell me droid don't!

Mine searches my phone

Mine does too if I use the search button, but not by number.

I wanted to find a way to search out a number on my phone to see who it belonged to.
And also to see if there was a way to start typing a name and a contact would come up. Although scrolling through contacts is incredibly easy with the Droid X.

Like I said above, to search for contacts, hold the menu button so the keyboard comes up and start typing the name and the name comes up.

Go to Contacts, and hold down the menu key. The keyboard will appear, then choose numbers and type the phone number it searchs and displays all matching entires.

Right, I did get that part. I meant to say I was looking for a way to search out numbers on my phone. But that's not a big deal..just wondering.

I'm confused, are you saying that you know a phone number, let's say 555-1212 and you and you want to search and see if you have it programmed into your phone and see who it belongs to? right?

Hi,

If I may suggest - my own aTAKEphONE app is another alternative.

It's not free, but I think it's worth the price - $3.

yup....no biggie, just something I'm used to doing if needed. Say a strange number shows up I don't remember, on a kids phone, a bill or something. just nice to have that option.

OK, That's what I thought, and you can do that with the built in contact list. Go to Contacts, press the search key (magnifing glass) When the keyboard comes up, you can press the key that changes the letters to numbers and just type in a number. It starts to match on the number and all contacts, you eventually will get to the one you want.
