Finger print security selected, but sometimes phone only asks for a swipe to unlock

I have a new Samsung Galaxy note 5, running 5.1.1. I have selected the finger print security to unlock the phone. It unlocks every time. This question is not about the functionality or reliability of the finger print scanner. There are many times when I will unlock the phone, use it for a few minutes, and then hit the side power button to turn off the screen. A few minutes later I go to use the phone again and all it asks for is a swipe to unlock the phone. If finger print security is chosen I would think that finger print would be needed each time. Any thoughts as to why sometimes it allows a swipe instead?

Do you have Smart Lock enabled? (Settings > Lock screen and security > Secure Lock Settings > Smart Lock)
This will disable the security if one of several conditions are fulfilled such as being in a trusted place, connected to a trusted device or if it detects that it was on your body since you last unlocked it.

Do you have a smartwatch linked? When I linked my Urbane that is exactly the functionality that was activated even though I had immediate lock set. Disconnected the watch, back to normal.

Set the "secured lock time" to instantly. Otherwise, the default 10 minutes has to pass before the fingerprint lock is enabled.

Under lock screen and security, there is also the option to make it secure lock when you press the power button. If that is turned off and your time out is 10 minutes then it won't secure lock when pressing the power button.
