Do any apps take advantage of the finger scanner yet? For example, use it in lieu of putting in a password for a banking app.

I'm curious too. I hope so. I have an exchange account for work and I'm hoping fingerprint scanner will be good enough instead of a pin or pattern.

password replacement would be perfect!

I'd like to see a simple app to have it also shut off the screen as well as start (and start without secondary PIN, etc).

It took awhile on the iPhone to get this but since the S6 has been out awhile maybe there are a few?

The only one that I can log in with my fingerprint on my iPhone is the Chase app.

Lastpass (expanding on an answer above) uses it to re-authenticate you.. you cant actually unlock your safe with it.. but if you set it to never auto-lock, you can always re-authenticate with finger until you reboot the phone..

Its AMAZING. (my password is 25 characters, totally random with symbols - on a PC that's fine with a keyboard... on a phone reentering it is a 5 minute affair)

Bank of america doesn't work yet..... Unless I'm doing something wrong

Yeah, hoping that the banking apps get it soon....iOS apps for Chase, Citi and a couple of others take advantage of it. Super convenient.

Very random questions on this...forgive my ignorance. The app developers are developing for the OS. Marshmellow is the first Android OS to have the finger print technology incorporated into the build. Samsung has had fingerprint technology for a couple of generations, but Kit Kat and lollipop didn't incorporate it into the builds.

Now that finger print technology is a part of Marshmellow, should we start seeing a slew of apps incorporate it? Is this something we would have even seen on Lollipop and previous builds? Am I making sense....

My understanding is developers could write applications to take advantage of the Samsung fingerprint API on releases previous to Marshmallow. This carries the caveat that only Samsung devices would include support.

With the inclusion of a fingerprint API in Marshmallow, developers should be able write to the native Android fingerprint API and this should allow more widespread adoption (should the hardware include a fingerprint sensor).

Unfortunately, even if there was an app that would let you do something with your fingerprint on the S6, it won't (for now) on a Nexus. Android didn't have 'universal' support for fingerprint scanners until Marshmallow came out a couple weeks ago, which meant that an app developer would have to build in support for Samsung, LG, HTC, etc. separately. I'd assume once Samsung phones are updated to Marshmallow, they'll support the universal standard.

Hopefully, app developers are taking the release of Marshmallow as the 'starting gun' to build in fingerprint reading.
