fingerprint/iris not unlocking note 8

could someone tell me what im doing wrong i got everything set up but still the only way to unlock my phone is to swipe. is there something else i got to do to get my fingerprint or iris to unlock my phone? this is my first samsung switched over from apple.

You also have to enable those in the security settings as unlock options.

Settings>lock screen and security>screen lock type

There you'll see a list and 'current lock type' will be displayed next to your current selection... Sounds like yours is set to swipe.

I have mine set to pattern and can use fingerprint and Iris as well. I recommend trying that.

Also if you have smart Lock turned on you may be bypassing the secure lock types as well.

Have you checked Smart Lock to see if anything is turned on in there?

yeah i just got done checking it i havent set that up. i got them to work when i first got it so i dont know why they dont wanna work now.

I finally got the iris scanner to accept my eyes and now it works like a charm and fast. The fingerprint sensor is less reliable for me, but that may be the position. It works on one of my fingers about half the time. Will eventually add another finger to see if that works any better.

im getting the fingerprint to unlock the phone only here and there im going to try the iris scanner and see if i get it to work.

My security is set to pin and prints, yet the ONLY way I can unlock my phone (if you can call it that) is by swiping. Yet I can use my prints to sign into my bank still, so I know I'm setting my finger over the sensor correctly.

Also, no biometrics work to unlock my phone: not face, iris, nor prints. I'm not happy.

I've found the iris scanner to be way more reliable than the fingerprint sensor.

That's just a pain in the *** for me, though, because I'd have to take my glasses off hundreds of times a day =/

No you don't....I have been able to use it with my glasses and my sunglasses it worked like a charm. Even last year with the note seven I had no problems getting it to work with my glasses

Its probably not really locked. If your phone is set to not lock immediately after pressing power button on after screen dim. You need to go into settings and check to see how long it's set for phone to lock after screen is off. Example, it may be set to 5 minutes, 10 minutes, 1 minute etc. I hope this helps.

This link explains how to change your lock settings. When you get to Secure Lock Settings, you're changing the top setting to "Lock instantly". I didn't realize this was a thing and it's why my fingerprint wasn't "opening" the phone - IT WASN'T EFFING LOCKED IN THE FIRST PLACE until 10 minutes after I pushed the power button.
