Fingerprint Reader

My FPR never works first try. Usually says to cover entire fingerprint sensor. I have to move thumb around several times for it to work. I've registered the thumb twice. It must be my screen protector. Are some protectors better for using the FPR?

Try moistening thumb and see if, like mine, it then works immediately. If it does then likely not the screen protector.

It's probably your screen protector, as it's highly unlikely your FPS is defective. The TPU/film ones seem to be ok (and that is what Samsung used to install from the factory). Glass screen protectors seem to cause the most problems. Regardless, they're cheap enough you can just try a new one.

Also, make sure you are using enough pressure when you place your thumb on the sensor. You need to push hard enough such that your thumb flattens out and provides a good source "picture" for the FPS. Also make sure that when you train the fingerprint sensor, you are using the actual thumb position that you use to unlock the phone.

Thing is that on mine if I have a moist thumb, then nothing else matters. With a moist thumb it works first time every time, with light pressure, barely touching the screen or in almost any position. If my thumb is very dry then it is finicky. Because of how it works with a moist thumb and the fact that it was exactly the same before the screen protector, I believe that, on mine at least, the screen protector has no impact.

That's an interesting observation. I guess it could still be the screen protector interacting differently with a wet/dry thumb but that may be a stretch. All I can confirm at this point is that mine behaves identically whether my finger is bone dry, or wet with sweat (i.e. while at the gym).

Still might be worth testing without a screen protector just to confirm any suspicions as they are incredibly cheap even for a 3-pack.

Not when the protector is a rip off fusion Zagg. I know pushing hard helps but sometimes I still don't push hard enough.

No because my FP reader was exactly the same before I put on the screen protector. The WSD protector did not change anything in how my FP sensor works. Some people may just have dryer skin than others. I have found that even just breathing on my thumb before trying it makes it work.

Its mostly about people's prints when it comes to phone biometric with fingerprint.

I'm not having any issues with the Zagg. It's way overpriced and it smudges more than I'd like, but it's less smudgy than the screen protector it replaced. I almost never have issues with it recognizing my prints though.
