fingerprint scanner by camera ?

The location absolutely sucks. I've worked around it by using the Iris scanner instead, which works way better than I thought it would. I have to turn the phone around to use the fp scanner because I can't find it without looking.

It's where it is because the scanner under the screen didn't work out and they didn't have a real backup plan. To put it in a better location on the back would have required the entire internals redesigned. So I believe they bumped the planned dual camera and put the fp scanner where the second camera module used to be. That also explains why the camera module is the same as the S7.
All rumors point to the same location on the Note 8. That makes no sense. I havey phone connected to my watch, so it's always unlocked and rarely that I need to use that finger print scanner.

I have no problem with he placement. It should become muscle memory in a short while. I can find it without hesitation.

Nah. Annoying? Sure. Big deal? No.
I'll go with this same response.

I have my smartwatch set as a trusted device so it's not really a big deal anyway. I do use it for Samsung Pay and to open banking apps and it's never been an issue.

Just gotta get used to it.

I have to enter a pin anyways for Android Pay

I hated it at first but got used to it very quickly. Doesn't bother me at all now. Definitely a crappy spot to have it though.

I never had to enter a pin when I used Android Pay. I always just unlocked with my fingerprint.

I didn't clarify my post correctly. Since I have Android Pay, I always have to use a pin to unlock my screen for regular phone stuff (checking texts, missed calls ,etc).

I would rather use my fingerprint sensor to unlock the phone each time I use it but I thought since Android Pay is being used, I thought I have to use a pin to unlock the phone??

No, you can set it to unlock with the fingerprint and just hold the device up to the terminal and pay. I did that all the time on my LG V20. I use Samsung Pay on my Samsung devices so I haven't actually tested Android Pay on my S8+ but I don't see why it would be different than my V20. Try it.

I'm not talking about when using Android Pay though. I am talking about general usage of the phone (calls, texts, etc). Since AP is on the phone, I thought a secured lock screen is required at all times to unlock the phone. It seems like I can only use the pin.

FPS is considered a secure lock. I had mine set to unlock the phone with the FPS. I never used a pin.

I hate the finger print sensor location, but the smartwatch trusted unlock is nice...also the iris scanner is a no go for me with shades on

My Iris scanner has more issues when I'm wearing contacts (which is all the time since I'm blind hehe) than with shades. However, if there's a bright light on the background or out on broad daylight, it does seem to go bonkers all the time (which makes a bit of sense, since it uses IR for scanning, so sunlight does throw it off)

Not the best place honestly but with a case you will get used it to some extent.

Must admit that I was fairly hesitant to use the iris scanner at first, but it's definitely growing on me. Also, it works well in dark places too.

I don't use the camera anyway, got used to the placement of the fps after about 1-2 days my case does not have anything to help position either. Guess i'm just lucky ?

It's a non issue, much to do about nothing especially if you have a case on. I have yet to miss it or smudge my camera
