fingerprint scanner by camera ?

As a lefty I still find it terrible. The S8 is marginally better than the + but honestly it still annoys the hell out of me and it remains the most likely reason for me to ditch the S8 tbh. It's probably better for right handers.

On the S8+ I find it a little awkward, but it's not that big of a deal, really. There's other ways to unlock your phone. I find face unlock works the best. The Iris scanner is garbage.
Face unlock absolutely does not work for me, neither does iris scanner. Fingerprint of left index finger works great. Right index finger (my preference) works only a fraction of the time.

Iris scanner works well for me if I'm stationery, regardless of lighting condition. But if I'm walking and unlocking? It simply does work.

I thought it was awful.

For 3 days. Now it's fine.

I think a lot of the reviews overdid the "omg it is in a terrible spot" narrative. Do I wish it was below the camera? Sure. But it's nowhere near as bad as reviews made it to be, especially if you are using a case.

I discovered a workaround, which is to completely turn the phone over in my left hand and use my right thumb sideways to unlock the phone. For those times I have absolutely have to use the fingerprint scanner.

when I first got the plus, I tried using only a pin...that got old in less than a day. then I tried the iris scanner, which worked OK with glasses, but you still had to have the phone in the "perfect" spot. then face recognition, used that for about three days. it was ok, but still you had to have the phone in the perfect position. so, I gave in and tried the scanner. I'm a lefty, and within a day or so, I haven't touched the camera since. with a case I'm probably 95% accurate on the first try hitting the scanner. and it's super fast opening the phone.

The only issue I've had with it is that sometimes because of how I hold my phone, I'll unlock it as I put it in my pocket.

I disabled facial recognition (which NEVER worked anyway) and now iris and fingerprint sensors both work fine.

Yeah, I can't go back to front FPS now. I see older Samsung devices and cringe now. It looks so damn ugly and outdated
The S7 Edge still looks great with the FPS, I guess it really depends how Samsung integrated it. The FPS on the S7 series sits very plush and blends in pretty well with the rest of the body. I would have preferred Samsung still sticking to a narrower front FPS or something on the back a little lower. Heck Samsung Pay would have worked better with a front FPS, now its a struggle.

I like it where it is. Faster and easier to use than my S7 Edge was, and I like that phone too!
