Does everyone really have a problem with the placement of the fingerprint scanner?
I find that it's placement is great. I have a good grip on the phone in its current position.
My old N4 scanner I found to be difficult to use, especially while driving. I had to position my hand too low on the phone and it became more prone to dropping it.
I speak of this in a perspective of using the phone one handed.

Nope I like it. Once in awhile I don't place it quite right But it it's accurate 97% of the time.

Perfect for me, I hold my N8 with my left hand so I just stick out my finger and it's right where it need to be.
All the negative hype seemed to stem from a lot of the reviewers repeating each others comments and people taking it as gospel

I had never even tried to set it up because of issues I've had in the past with it on my N4 (never did get it to work at all). Then I saw the OP's post over in the"Things You Discovered" thread that said you don't even have to touch the screen or any buttons at all to unlock using the fps. Just set it up and it works fantastic! No more touching the home button or swiping or pressing the power button to unlock my phone.

To answer he OP's question, the placement of the fps is perfect for me.

Yes, I love that function. I actually just posted about it over there.
You can go from screen off to home screen without wearing out hardware buttons. Love it.

The FPS may "work" for some... but I feel the FPS is in the worst possible place for the many on the phone and I'll explain in pics.

For me... I like to hold a phone where I rest the bottom of my phone on my hand like so...

For me to do that, holding the phone exactly like first pic, the FPS is best positioned lower and in the middle like so...

But for me to use the FPS, I have to hold the phone near middle and you may notice other fingers are very close to the Bixby button on the left and the power button on the right and does get pressed often. I will once in a while rub the camera lens on the way to pressing the FPS too which annoys me leaving smudge.

So is it a deal breaker? No. I can make it work like many here. My FPS sensor after re-inputting my fingerprints a couple of times is finally dialed-in where I say near 90% works first time. But let's be honest, it's not in the best place.

I don't like the location at all.
For me it was more convenient on the front. I could easily unlock it while my phone was vertical on my desk at work on the kickstand. Now I have to pick it up whereas before I only had to press the sensor.

Also, while lying flat I could lift it from the charger pressing the sensor in one fluid motion.

It works for me perfect. I don't hold the phone just on the bottom as i want a decent grip on my phone. It's like anything else, it works for some and for some it don't work. It's a different way to do it and I think it works for most and the ones that say it doesn't work I'm betting you would like it better once you get over the learning curve.

It is a valid point that when the phone is laying down on back you have to pick the phone up to use finger print sensor, but I will make it work for the no front button, I love the clean look, full screen on front. I use the smart Lock feature or I just do the pattern unlock. Not that big of a deal to have no home button on the front of phone imo.

I am not comfortable with it either, though I don't consider it as drawback as the pros outweighs it.

To get your phone into the position, like in your 1st pic. you still have to pick the phone up.So while picking it up and before positioning it in your hand, try touching that FPS , works great!

Im used to honour phones with their back scanner so it's only a touch up from what I'm used to using. I prefer them on the back.

Coming from an LG V10 to a Note 8 I absolutely hate the FPS placement of this phone. Actually the security features are the only thing I don't like about my Note 8. FPS location is horrible for me and it only seems to work half of the time, I wear glasses so the iris scanner barely works for me. That leaves passcode or facial recognition. Facial recognition seems to work most of the time but is less secure. I find myself just using a passcode most of the time.

can we please put the finger scanner thing rest ... for most it is not a issue

The location is perfect for me. I'm left-handed and I keep the phone in my left pants pocket so when I pull out the phone my index finger is pretty much exactly on the FPS. I have average (male) sized hands. The people that say the button is up too high and show photos (like above) of them holding the phone down low freak me out because held like that it feels to me like the phone is just begging to be dropped!

The fingerprint placement sucks, but I have gotten used to it. Even with big hands it's a re-adjustment in the hands. A case makes it a lot easier to find.

Nope... at least for me. Holding it closer to the bottom, and I am a left hand holder myself, my fingers wrap around the phone better cause when I squeeze with my middle two fingers, left corner of the phone digs into deeper into my palm and feels more locked in.

If I have to hold it near the middle then I don't get that corner dig into my palm and I feel if I don't hold tight enough it'll want to slide out of my hand (may be due to the case feeling smoother on the sides). And again, higher up my fingers are ON the Bixby button and power button.

Maybe your hands are bigger where you can hold it higher up and still be able to get that corner secured on your palm and works for you better. I'm always trying to make adjustments. I was using the retina almost 100% because it was easier, but the FPS has been dialed in and working so well for me I have been trying different methods.
