Fingerprint sensor issues, anyone?

Mine works great. Very pleased with it's performance.

At the time I made the above statement, all was wonderful. After receiving the September update, not so much. I have tried the typical troubleshooting procedures, clearing the phone cache partition, stopping the biometrics app & clearing the biometrics cache, registering new prints, etc. The item that helps the most is moisture on my finger. I have to do the same thing to unlock my Tab s6. So the performance on my N20U went from a '10' to a '6'.

I can't say I enjoy having to blow on my digits in public to unlock my phone. Probably looks a little crazy...

Try adding Face Recognition. For me it did make FPS faster. And turn off Animations.

Mine started getting pretty bad too but after removing and re-registering my fingerprints it's nice and responsive again.

When I put a screen protector on, I reregistered fingerprints. I did so with touch sensitivity on and it was very difficult to store and scan them. I turned it off and it is actually picking them up a lot easier now. If you are having issues, give that a try and see if it helps.

UK, Sim free Note 20 Ultra, already tried the register the same finger twice and wasn't helping. Now got one finger four times but still the same issue. It fails so often that sometimes it goes over the 5 allowable attempts, or is just very slow, and also needs a harder press that my previous Notes.
It still has factory screen protector on.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

A couple of tips I picked up when setting up the finger prints are.

When setting up take x3 scans with each thumb and then rotate the phone around when taking further prints of each thumb so your phone can read both thumbs from the same finger print scan. Scan your prints as you would normally hold the phone.

Also using two fingers when setting up one fingerprint works pretty well.

Go into Settings . Biometrics and Security. Biometrics Preferences . Turn Off Screen Transition Effect.

Then go into Settings and search for Optomise Battery Usage. Tap in Optimise Battey Usage tap to show All and scroll down to com.samsung.android.biom and toggle Off

For me this improved the fps on my Note 20 Ultra 5G.

I also have dry skin on my fingers and so find it sometimes beneficial to moisten my fingertip by breathing on it before unlocking the phone.

No issues with either hand, I have two fingers setup.

I do remember reading about during the cooler months you need to press harder due to the nature of how our skin gets and the dryness. Made sense to me.

I did the same finger with different orientation. Very fast and reliable compared to S20. My iOS devices with finger print unlock always worked horizontal and portrait with any training.

I have said this before with a screen protector glass the sensor is on point every time on my note 20 maybe the curved glass is different on the ultra but the regular note is spot on every time.

I just went to Biometrics Preferences , Turn Off Screen Transition Effect, after reading some posts here and I definitely notice a quicker response to the fingerprint scanner now, thanks!

Wow, I just did the same and it is soooo much faster now. Thanks!

Eh... I mean it definitely loads the home screen instantly... it doesn't do that extra 1/4 second of the fade-in animation so it gives that feel of it reading faster but I doubt it helps accuracy at all. I actually like the animation.

But I do wonder what that one tip does...

Since using 'Optimize Battery Usage' affects an apps background usage, I'm guessing disabling it, in this case, might save a person a few screen presses in an attempt to get a correct response. If the background usage of the biometrics is limited, or put to sleep, seems like that could slow down the response time.

But that's just my reasoning. :)

Finger print scanner

This thing is not reliable at all. It works perfectly for some time, then progressively gets bad
Not even using screen protector. Warranty issue?
