Fingerprint sensor not responding

On my Galaxy S6, I'm repeatedly receiving the error, "The fingerprint sensor is not responding. Try again later." This started out as a sporadic error but frequency has increased and is now always an error. I've tried removing the launcher, rebooting in safe mode, cleaning the sensor, wiping cache, everything I can think of.

Any suggestions? Phone was new in July of 2015. Thanks.

Welcome to Android Central! If the factory reset doesn't help, the only other thing I can think of would be to reinstall the firmware using Smart Switch (SmartSwitch: Install & update or replace firmware) or Odin (http://forums.androidcentral.com/am...w-flash-stock-rom-via-odin-new-interface.html). This might help if the currently installed firmware is corrupt (since a factory reset would still use that corrupted firmware).

But if that doesn't work, then it's probably a hardware failure.

I'm having the same problem, I called Samsung support and they said to take it into my nearest samsung store. The tech guy there typed in *#0*# and went to the sensors test, the fingerprint sensor reported that it was faulty. Could have saved me 3 hours if the support guy said to do that.

Hey guys! I have the same issue, got all the responses from Samsung and all that. Its probably not a hardware issue because sometimes I can delete the fingerprint data, erase the cache and redo my fingerprints and it will work for a day or so then stop. But now mine just says enter backup password but I never setc one. I use the pattern backup for the lockscreen.

Hey soo I did this and all of the things said fail. Is this a hardware issue? Or a software thing?

if the sensor test failed then it is most likely to be a hardware problem

hello I have the same problem I'm sorry for my bad english so for to resolve the problem you need to root you call with magisk after this done install titanium backup and open the app search fingerprint and clear the cache and all the data after it's done now go back settigns for to add you new fingerprint it's working really for me if you have any question I'm here

I had the motherboard changed in mine for reception issues and now my finger print sensor just lets anyone into my phone also when I try to set up the touch sensor it takes forever to realise I've lifted my finger

I did a factory reset and it was working for a week and now it's not responding again. Great job samsung
