Fingerprint sensor placement for the Note 8 - Baffled

The finger print scanner is a non issue trust me after a day of use you'll know where it's at . beside why not use the super fast iris scanner

That's what I was using on my Note 7s and I loved it... especially the replacement unit, they had actually improved the software on those and it worked even quicker!

Have you seen the latest rumours regarding the fingerprint sensors? KGI Securities predicts that as Apple will apparently drop the embedded FPS for this year, Samsung will not have it either for the S9 but rather debut it for the Note 9-the phone I want to get to replace my S5.

KGI claims that with Apple dropping the embedded scanner, it takes the pressure off Sammy to keep up with this feature for the S9. I kind of think this makes a lot of sense for 2 reasons.

Firstly the S8 phones have been a commercial success even with an awkwardly placed scanner. With an even better display, features, processor there is no reason the S9 can't repeat that-especially if Sammy locates the FPS more conveniently. It gives Sammy significantly more time to develop the embedded scanner.

Secondly, it allows a big differentiator between the S9 and Note 9. The dual cameras makes a big point of difference between the S8 and Note 8. So an embedded scanner can do likewise between the S9 and Note 9.

A lot of people are not in a position to move to a new phone so will live with it. They probably dismissed it before choosing the S8 too, dazzled by the rest of the device. I'f bet though that a lot of people in an upgrade position when the S9 is released would think twice if the S9 still has this FPS placement.

TBH though I'd be amazed if the S9 does not move to a better place. The S8 was a late addition and I'd also guess that the N8 design was in the can months ago.

As an aside if the iPhone is ditching the FPS then it had better have something special to replace it. Neat though iris scanning is on the S8 it was still too slow and inconvenient vs using a FPS. Will be interesting.

If I had a new Samsung, I'd never use the fingerprint sensor. It would be iris scanner 100% of the time (not counting trusted places)

I don't even use the FPS I have now, so that doesn't really bother me I guess. I get how it could seem frustrating though.

I only use mine to log into apps. Like my bank, or credit card. Safe, secure, easy :) otherwise, i live with an 11 yr old, dot pattern all the way ;) shell lock herself out before guessing it

That is definitely one hell of an age, so I understand. LoL. I use pin numbers to log into everything else that you mentioned. I used it to improve my muscle memory. I'm way too forgetful. LoL
