Firmware upgrade Stuck

recently purchased a galaxy s3, SGH - T999. Plugged into the computer trying to upgrade its firmware, however it's been stuck at the "Firmware upgrade progress" for hours, and on my phone it's saying "Downloading..Do not turn off target"

I was just wondering if there's any fix for this

(1) Just remove the USB connection to your PC, and then remove the battery cover. Remove the battery from your phone. Wait about a minute, re-install the battery and back cover, then re-boot. You should then have a normal re-start; everything's well.

An alternative to (1) above is to re-boot into Recovery, and then restore from a previous backup.
