Hi

The HTC M9 phone I have which is second hand, has the attached screen showing and I cannot get past this screen.

I am not sure what to do - it has been used by someone who used developer functionality I think, and was wiped before he gave it to me.

How can I set it up to use?

It isn't being recognised by my laptop or the HTC Manager. I have updated the drivers when it did connect (once) and they were fine.

Thank you for any help you can give me - I am looking forward to getting to know the phone and play around and learn once I can get into it!

Hi

Thanks for replying - yes it does. All of the options show lead back to this screen.

It goes to recovery mode with a red triangle with an exclamation point inside, then nothing.

I saw on another threat holding volume up button and power button, that lead to the menu as in the picture attached again.

Is it another button combination? Sorry, this all seems like really basic stuff to you I guess!

Nope, I think it is power and volume down button to get to recovery. Try that. Otherwise as in your image, use the volume key to page up and down and the power key as the enter key. Page down to reboot to recovery and hit the power button.

Ok, so I get to the Red Triangle screen, then nothing happens. I wait a couple of minutes and it reboots to the screenshot again.

I am guessing that maybe the previous owner wiped all operating systems or something?

Ok, thank you for all of your help. I will check out the link and give it a go.

Thanks!

Hi,

The link worked but the the Ruu.zip has been removed.

I contacted HTC support, they gave the following instructions

1. Press Volume Down two times to highlight reboot to bootloader.
2. Press the Power key to select reboot to bootloader.
3. When the white bootloader screen appears, press the Volume Down key three times to highlight BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE.
4. Press the Power key to select BOOT TO RECOVERY MODE.
5. Wait up to 2 minutes for another black screen with red and blue text to appear. Note: If a device with a red triangle and exclamation point appears, Hold Power while pressing and releasing Volume Up to continue.
6. Press Volume Down three times to highlight wipe cache partition
7. Press the Power key to select wipe cache partition.
8. Once complete, press the Power key again to select reboot system now.

Which bought me back to the same screen as screenshot. They advised then a factory reset, which I did which again bought me back to screenshot.

Then they said a repair is the only way to go.

Sounds to me you will need to flash a factory ROM. You will have to find the exact model variant of your M9 and find the corresponding factory RUU files from HTC support site. Then, boot into recovery mode and allow RUU on the PC to flash your phone.

Flash a ROM, e.g. update the phone's firmware.

I hope you really got a good deal on this phone (like next to nothing). It looks like your previous owner of the phone screwed up the phone really bad. It could potentially be a brick (never can be recovered).

Hi,

Thanks for replying again - ah ok, thanks for explaining. I got the ROM but the phone isn't being recognised on my PC at all so can't connect to try to install it even with rebooting the PC and phone repeatedly.

Was given the phone by my brother in law, he wiped it to give to me, but think he may have gone a bit too far...

Thank you for your help, looks like I am at a bit of a dead end!

I never flashed HTC phone before. But I think if you boot it into recovery mode first. Then connect to PC and your RUU package may recognize the phone.

Hey,

Thanks, I tried that but the RUU couldn't locate the phone. Think will ask my brother in law to send it for a repair!!

Thank you for all of your suggestions.
