First Tablet

Hey Guys, according to UPS i'll be getting my prime tomorrow sometime. This is my first tablet and i'm curious what you would recommend I start with for apps?

Another newb question, what advantage does rooting have? I realize you get super user rights but why would I want/need that?

Do you want the tablet to let you use it or do you want to be the one choosing what and when you do anything with the tablet?
