So, after giving it much thought, I decided to unlock the bootloader on my HTC One and root it! I installed customer recovery (TWRP). After reading instructions I succeeded with everything I thought I would have trouble with. Then I get to the part where I thought I could flash. Unfortunately, I end my day feeling defeated. I downloaded Android Revolution HD 4.2.2. and for the life of me, I cannot get it to install. Every time I flash a failure message pops up. After reading and re-reading for an hour, I have decided to give up for the night. I haven't given up completely. Any suggestions and help would be much appreciated.

Which provider are you using?

Yeah, which carrier as in service provider? And I thought Android Revolution HD 12.1 was the latest? 4.2.2 seems really old unless that's a Sprint thing? Do you wipe the virtual SD card before installing? And finally, are you sure that the download of ARHD went 100% rather than 99.9%, for instance and isn't a corrupt file?

I'm on AT&T. It was Android Revolution HD 12.1 I downloaded. I did perform a wipe. Nothing indicated that the file downloaded in error, but, I better re-download the file to be safe. Also, I was thinking, is there a specific folder I should drop it in for it to flash properly? That is one thing maybe I'm doing wrong which could cause the error?

I don't think you've made any mistakes because the process is rather fool-proof. I'd re-download the file on Wi-Fi and make sure it reaches 100%. There doesn't have to be a specific folder, I always use the Download folder but any folder is fine. What recovery are you using? And what version of it? And after it gave you the failure message in red, have you tried rebooting in order to see if it'll actually boot or not? A lot of things I flash in recovery install fine and work despite giving me a "Flash Failed" in the end, however that is usually with modifications rather than ROMs.

I'm using TWRP 2.5 I believe. I've rebooted the phone and even restored just fine. Now that I think of it though, when I was downloading the zip (using my Mac), it did stop due to low memory. I cleaned up my comp to free memory (moved some stuff to my external HD) I restarted the download and it finished no problem after that. Maybe the zip stopping caused some type of error to it?

I'd bet my money that is what caused the problem. Macs aren't good with resuming downloads, I can tell you that. I use Internet Download Manager on Windows to download any files larger than 200MB, I rarely use my Mac to download anything because some websites don't allow it to resume and others it resumes but I end up with a corrupt file.

Thanks for the info. As soon as I get home, I'll DL again and try. I'll keep you guys posted.

If you have fast data connection, try downloading right to your phone

Alright! I was finally able to flash! Thank you to everyone for all the helpful tips! Special shout outs to TarekElsakka and jonathan2677. After downloading the zip file directly to my phone, I was able to flash the ROM no problem!

That's awesome man, I am glad it worked for you as well. That damn Mac can't be trusted with downloads, I tell you. Were you using Safari? Folks on Mac-Forums have complained about Safari eating up memory and they made me realize that it truly is a memory hog! It uses more than a graphics-intensive game sometimes even though it'd just be sitting there in the background. lol

I've never had to deal with "not enough memory" on my Mac that is why I'm weirded out by what happened to you. You should always quit applications running in the background that you do not need and you should run "Automation" in applications like Onyx every couple of weeks to clean up your Mac and make it perform to its best capabilities.

I sure was using Safari. It weirded me out too. I had never seen that message pop up til that moment.

I'd stop using Safari till Mac OS X Mavericks. I have the Developer Preview and they seemed to have addressed the memory issue. Google Chrome and FireFox are great, but I prefer Chrome all the way.
