Hi all,

I have just gotten a Z5 compact and it's awesome from my usage so far.

Hopefully this question is in the right forum section.

In my country my carrier is insanely slow with issuing updates and I'm still stuck on 5.1.1
I have tried flashing the latest firmware onto my phone using Xperia flash tool but when I go to perform the last step (powering on while holding volume down button), the phone just powers on as normal and no flashing takes place.
Anyone can shed some light on this?
The same issue happens when trying to flash my Z4 tablet (also still stuck on 5.1.1).

I successfully flashed 6.0.1 to my old Z2 a couple of months back using this method. Don't know why the newer devices won't work? Could it be a carrier related thing? The Z2 was also on the same carrier.

Many thanks in advance.

Okay, I think you've got it half right. Press the volume down and power button until the device turns off. When the device is off ONLY RELEASE THE POWER BUTTON. Keep the volume down button depressed and then repress the power button to turn the phone back on. Hopefully this brings you to the screen you're trying to get to!

Report back!

Gave it a go yesterday however pressing volume down and power button takes a screen shot or does nothing. I held them for 30 seconds. Only way I know to power down is either the normal way or to hold down volume up and then the power button for a forced power down.

Anyone have other suggestions on this? I'm beginning to feel like there's some sort of carrier lock stopping this from happening.
