Looking for suggestions on a flashlight app that uses the full brightness of the S8's LED. I've been using Tiny Flashlight. It's old (you can tell by the UI), but it's a safe app (as in no malware, no crazy permissions). The problem is that it only uses about half the full brightness of the S8's LED.

With the software on the S8, there are 5 levels of brightness you can change between. Using either the quick tools edge pane or the settings on the pull down notification bar toggles.

My setup that I've been using for a year or two is that I have my flashlight app as the right side quick access slider on the lock screen. And in the app, you can set it to automatically turn the flashlight on when you open the app.

So without looking at the phone, I can wake the screen, swipe the bottom right, and lock the phone, and the flashlight comes on. The closest to that that I can do with Samsung's built in implementation is swipe to open the edge panel (and have no other edge panels turned on) and tap the button on the screen to turn on the flashlight. It works, but I prefer my method.

Please no comments that I should just search for apps. I read an article a while back that said that flashlight apps are the prime target for putting malware on the Play store. I don't know if that's still the case or not. Unless your comment is in jest-- in that case, it's quite welcomed. ;).

I am considering this one, but have not installed it yet.

If you go to the notification shade, swipe down on the shortcut icons and then tap on the word Flashlight you can adjust the brightness of the built-in flashlight app.

I use the 'quick tools' edge panel. Just a quick swipe and you can both turn on and off the flashlight as well as adjust the brightness

I just use the flashlight app from the edge panel. Very quick to access, adjustable brightness. And stock app so no malware.

Tap on the Flashlight wording in drop down, not the icon then you can adjust the brightness.

And this is why I visit this forum regularly. Had no idea this even existed. BTW, the flashlight on the highest setting is bright AF.

Yeah, the Samsung software for the flashlight works great. There's also an edge panel with it, too. And it gives easy option on low to high brightness. You can do it from the lockscreen, too.

I am just wanting a dedicated app so that I can place it as one of my lockscreen shortcuts. That's my preferred method because that way you don't have to look at the phone. Some apps automatically turn the LED on when you open the app.

Update for anyone interested. The quick tools edge panel works great. BUT I like to be able to turn my flashlight on without looking at the phone at all.

So I installed this app. Then I set it as the right side quick launch app on my lock screen (no security on it). And I have the app set to automatically turn on the flashlight when the app is launched.

The light is full brightness, as I tested it with the quick tools flashlight. Works great! And now I can use other edge apps.
