For a "multimedia" device this sure has some shortcomings!!

^this.

When you plug something into the headset jack, the phone looks for the mic feed from whatever you have plugged in. So, if you are using a normal stereo connection, then you won't be able to talk. You can probalby find an adapter to connect both a mic and the cassette adapter in to the jack on the phone.

It doesn't make sense though, because other phones (droid and iphone for example) don't have this issue. If the headphones don't have a mic, it doesn't disable the phone's mic. I don't understand why this particular phone can't tell the difference, or its software just isn't set up to differentiate.

I've enjoyed my Fascinate's multimedia features very much.

The built-in equalizer is a great addition to the music player.
Videos on my SD Card play wonderfully on the SAMOLEDas well.

Moreover, I have had no issues with the volume whatsoever.

It's been loud and clear.

Coming from a D1 I have to agree with you on sound and video quality out of the box on this phone. I've seen considerable poor video quality in movies converted, but I think it's the software I'm using. I've tried Handbrake with little success. What software are you using?

hey i am using handbrake as well to convert movies but have been really happy with the quality of the movies. are you selecting to option to have it optimized for an iphone/ipod touch?

I've been using WinFF to convert the movies, and it's been working out really well. Also, keep in mind that the phone does play divx files too...

What is a Cassette Tape? That is what my daughter asked me when it came up a few weeks back. Seriously. You are worried about the tech on your phone but still have a tape deck in your car? I don't use tapes or CDs in the car anymore. I currently either listen to music off my Storm2 or stream Pandora.

Holding out for the Incredible HD as my phone replacement. Hoping that it happens soon...my Storm2 is feeling really old right now.

You come off as a bit judgmental here.....why don't you look again at what you posted AND what I posted (since presumably this is directed at me). I use my Fascinate to listen to music or stream Slacker...or listen to an Audible book or to listen to podcasts. I play it through my car stereo using a cassette adapter because yes, my car has a cassette player (and for the record, it also has a CD player). I didn't say I listen to cassettes. My stereo doesn't have an auxiliary input like the newer ones do. So I'm doing the same thing you are (well, I'm assuming you stream your Storm 2 to your car stereo...perhaps Bluetooth, FM modulator or auxiliary input)and therefore YES...I'm concerned about the tech on my PHONE since that's what I'm using as my media device.

In fact...I use my Fascinate nearly exclusively for my in car "entertainment". I do listen to the radio sometimes but mostly for traffic reports. Prior to the Fascinate I used a Storm 2 (like you). The Storm 2 definitely performed much better in the volume department.

There have been a couple of posters that have said the volume out is fine for them...I'm curious if you have tried the turn by turn GPS functionality (Google Navigate). That is unusable for me as I can't hear it at all (maybe I just have a loud car).

I think 2.2 will be a great help, and then the ROM analysts can figure out what to remove.

it is pretty sad that the storm 1 can launch the camera faster than the fascinate.

Yes, the headset has an extra section on the tip for the mic connection. This could be why it's messing up with the cassette adapter. I picked up a cheap A2DP bluetooth receiver from Dealextreme that I'm going to use instead of the aux cable that I'm currently using.

I am adding an in-line mic between the cassette adapter and phone. Haven't tried it yet but no reason it shouldn't work. I give it a whirl as soon as it gets here.

Here's the one I'm getting. It plugs into the phone, then the cassette adapter plugs into it.
Yes, dammit. Many cars as late as 2006 had 6 CD changer, XM Radio, and a Cassette Player in the head unit. But no Aux inputs. Yeah you can get an aux input kit for about $75 bucks and go thru the ordeal of installing yourself or paying someone else to do it. FM transmitters suck, so they're out. So for $10 or less you can play your phones tunes thru your car's speakers and make and answer calls, with the addition of a unit like the one above. Of course the passengers can hear both sides of the conversation, but sometimes that is desirable.

Yeah, I was having the same trouble with the volume today so I just put the phone down into the double cup holder in the console. This cup holder is basically a box with couple of flip up cup grabbers. Well that box acts as a sounding board. I was very surprised when the google nav voice came on and sounded about twice as loud as it had been on the dash. Had to keep the moon roof open though so I didn't lose the satellites. Seriously, play around with this. Maybe someone could add a little sound box to the back of the car dock? Just as a workaround until we find a software fix. Might interfere with the satellite antenna, though.

It has to be a sw issue, as the jack itself isn't physically tied to a switch on any of the phones.
