I was browsing around looking at the Buyback program and found this little note:

How long is the trade-in quote valid on Sprint BuyBack.com?

Once the quote is generated online, the price is locked and will not change. It is valid for 45 days.

So if you are interested in doing a buyback, I'd lock in the $150 price now. I think I'll buy my Evo 3d for $200, attempt to sell my OG Evo on Craigslist, and if all else fails I'll still have 30+ days to trade in to Sprint for $150. Or, if I hate the 3D I can do the 30 day return policy and keep my Evo until a better option comes out.

Just thought I'd share that tidbit... sorry if this is known information!

Actually, now I am not quite sure as to whether or not you can cancel a buyback after you generate a quote online. I'll call later today and try to verify that. If you are locked in to a trade in its not quite as good of an idea unless you are certain that is the route you want to take. If you really do want to trade in to Sprint I'd definitely lock in the $150 because it will only drop after the 3D comes out.

Ever find out if you could cancel after the order is placed?

When I pre-ordered the Evo 3D at my local Sprint store, the employee basically said on Friday, it could drop down to $100 for the OG Evo. If anyone is for sure trading in through Sprint, I suggest locking it in prior to Friday.

Just an FYI for people looking at that buyback program, You can probably get more if you're willing to sell it on Ebay. I just did a check and there's a few auctions ending soon on Ebay for used Evos and the price is over $200 for them. They're in good condition, have clean ESNs, and come from reputable sellers but don't include a lot (or any) accessories.

At $150, it might not be worth your time, hassle, and eBay fees to sell it on Ebay, but if they do drop it down to $100, I highly recommend going this route.

Then again, if all the Evo users out there decide to go to the Evo 3D and dump their old Evos, that pricing may come down quite a bit on Ebay, too.

Just another option.

You are not locked in. It is a quote that you have 45 days to act on or not. If you don't act on it at all, Sprint is not coming after you to ask for the phone.

I was planning on going in to Sprint to get the EVO 3D on Friday and trade in the EVO 4G to get the $150. For some reason if they lowered the price that day, I would still have the quote from Sprint Buy Back.com offer and get the 150 that way. It is better to protect yourself.

Pardon if I'm not understanding this fully.

I recently decided I'm going to trade in my Evo 4g for the 150 on friday.

I went to a local sprint store in Queens, NY. I didn't have to buy a 50 dollar giftcard in order to be locked into the pre-order. He simply said they are taking names on a list and that was all. He said the list was small and I will definitely be able to get a evo 3d on launch.

So my question is, how do I lock myself into the 150 dollar price? I confirmed with him that you will be able to get 150 for the evo 4g. But after reading these threads it seems that the price could drop ON friday to 100 dollars. I don't want that to happen.

So, If I go online and enroll in the buy back program I will be locked in the 150 dollar trade in value, correct?

So if I go to the sprint store on Friday and purchase the evo 3d. Can he look at my account and see that I'm locked into that price? I'm not sure how this would work? Would he be the one giving me the 150 dollar credit when I got to purchase the 3d?

Any information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

best,

best,
No, I means you are protecting yourself if for some reason on Friday the EVO 4G trade-in at the store goes down. It means you would have pay the $199 at the store, go home, get all the paperwork you printed from online, put the phone and the trade in receipt in the return enveloppe that you have to supply, and send it back to the Sprint Rebate Program. They pay for the shipping with a prepaid slip. Once they receive it, they will credit your Sprint account $150. Stores can't match an online rebate. There is no risk setting it up to have just in case the EVO 4G price goes down Friday. You don't have to use the quote from the web.

Thanks for the reply! Cleared some things up.

I also did some digging around.

I had a chat sessions with a sprint rep. And asked them if they can confirm the trade in value for fridays evo 3d release. They did indeed confirm that it will be 150 dollar trade in. I told them about the rumor that it may drop to 100 dollars but they person said they haven't heard anything about the value decreasing. So on Friday, I think it's safe to assume that there will be 150 dollar trade in credit.

Now, I was curious how this in store trade in works. I asked the sprint rep and they told me that you take your phone to trade in and you get a credit attached to your account. I honestly thought that I would be walking out of the store with only having to spend 50 dollars for the evo 3d. That's not the case. The rep said it will take 1 to 2 billing cycles for the credit to be attached to your account. That's a bit of a disappointment but I get it.

So, I started thinking. Can't I just charge the phone to my account. The rep checked and said I could. So I started asking, if they charge the cost of the phone to my account, can I let that charge sit in my account until the 150 dollar credit goes through. They said something about needing to pay to avoid interruption. It was kind of confusing. The rep also said you can basically pay partial payments. So if you have the 199 charged to your account. Pay like 50 dollars on it for one billing cycle. Hopefully by the next billing cycle the 150 credit will kick in wiping out the rest of the cost of the phone.

Sorry for the long post. I just thought I would shed some light on the information that I found out. Perhaps some of you were wondering the same thing.

Best,

Opus

I traded in my EVO for my Nexus and was given the credit right there. I only paid $60 something for my Nexus and i was out the door.
