For those of us unimpressed, what would have redeemed the G5 in your eyes?

How can you say the G5 is less "functional" than the G4 when you haven't even laid hands on it?

How can I say that? I know how to read, and can compare features and specs.

LG dropped a couple of software features that are important to many. The side volume buttons are not as functional, to me, as rear buttons. Yes, I've used phones with both. And the G5 doesn't support wireless charging. Sounds less functional to me.

You know what, I apologize. I think we interpret the definition of functional differently. I still have my opinions on the matter, but so do you.

I didn't expect a smaller V10 going in.

What would have redeemed me would have been keeping the killer audio from the V10. I get the module thing, and will need to see/experience that to pass full judgement. But, the V10 has a killer setup built-in without an add-on module. IMO, the module should have had a much improved speaker, or some added functionality beyond just improved headphone audio.

I have little doubt that the audio module will produce fantastic sound, but if it's not priced right many people will just pass on it.

I would have also liked to see an updated camera module. There is nothing wrong with the G4/V10 camera, but it was not head and shoulders above the S6/Note 5 camera, let alone the S7 camera (presumably). It's possible that LG drastically improved the ISP algorithms, but it's hard to bet against a new sensor in the S7 that is designed from the ground up for faster focusing and better low light photography (one of which was already a strength in the G4/V10).

Yeah, same here. When I heard that they were going to be using the same sensor as the G4, I was disappointed. Now, it's a good sensor, and it takes good pictures, bit it's clear mobile camera tech just went through another generational shift. I've been able to compare hundreds, if not thousands, of pictures between my wife's G4 and my 6P... And the advantages of the larger sensor show up in near every scenario... Not just in a dark room.

I just think that had they paired a larger sensor with that wide angle one, it would have been such a special camera. Seems like such a big lost opportunity.

The G5 is growing on me. The one thing I would change is the waythe back of the phone looks. Imo that's where it looks kinda ugly. Also a bigger battery would have been much appreciated.

I do agree! Totally! I really like the look of the front now. The back is a bit dull, but I can live with that! The biggest wish for me though would be a slightly bigger battery. But I'll reserve judgement on that as a more optimised ui, more efficient processor and marshmallow might improve things.

I've seen many people commenting on how ugly the G5 is, but personally I think there's nothing wrong with it. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and all that...
I agree about the battery though. 3000mah at least is what I would expect, so a bit disappointed to see 2800

After looking at many pictures and videos, the titan grey is growing on me. I am starting to like this phone more and more. The S7 IP68 was really tempting, but after playing with the S7, I came to the conclusion that I am not a Samsung fan at this point. As much as people complain about the LG UI, I think Samsung's is still worse. I played with both the S7 and S7E several times and the little stutters/hesitations along with Samsung's implementation of RAM management are not to my liking. With LG, I have not noticed those strange stutters/hesitations and generally feel like the UI is more fluid. Also, Samsung is notoriously late with system updates, while at least LG seems to care in this department and supports their handsets more frequently. Finally, the replaceable battery means I can keep the phone longer if I prefer.

Looking forward to trying out the LG G5 soon. Final thought, I hope LG is listening, please bring back the app drawer in a future update. It seems I am not alone in that thought. In the meantime if I decide to get the G5 I will use Nova Launcher. I do prefer the stock calendar widgets, and unfortunately I can't use them with Nova.

I am happy to see all the great competition in the mobile market place thanks to Samsung, LG, Apple, HTC, Sony, and now Hauwei. It's nice to have such a great choice that we can be as picky as we are.

I prefer the dark grey myself. I jumped on the T-Mobile website and the only options they have were the standard grey/silver and either the gold or pink, I can't remember. I know pre-orders aren't up yet, but this makes me suspect they're gonna do the exclusive colors for carriers. Makes me said. I want the international variant, but I don't think I can shell out the money this year. My wife and I just moved and I don't think I'll have the funds. I think I'll just Jump to the G5.

Too early to know for sure about the colors. I have heard rumors that the international variant only has 3GB of RAM. The other thing I didn't care for on the S7 was the fact that 2.8 GB of RAM is used by the operating system itself with no open apps. Seems high to me. Hoping the G5 has at least 2.0 GB available with no apps running, and that seems likely if the international variant only has 3 GB total. Not sure that 2.8 being used without any apps is rational to me.

Titan is the colour I want. I hope EE (UK carrier) stock that colour. I might consider gold but would have to see it in hand first, don't want to much bling!

Yeah, we all know, either from reading or experience, about Touchwiz and it's terrible ram management. Even still, that's really high.

I would doubt the 3 gigs of ram in the international variant, but we've also read about the Mexico variant which will have a midrange Snapdragon processor in it, so that's very possible. Sad really.

The smaller screen, smaller battery (even though replaceable) and taking the controls off the back of the phone sealed it for me. I had my G3 for 2 years and so far it's the best overall phone I have had. With all the changes I upgraded to the S7 edge yesterday. With only 24 hours I can't honestly review anything at this point. Only time will tell.

I don't think it's ugly. It's no fancy pants like the S7, just looks super plain/bland. But for me it's all about how well it performs. If it can let me game longer and without hiccups like my G4 or better, then it's a winner.

I see a lot of folks whining about a smaller battery, not significantly smaller, but smaller. And all the assumptions are it won't last long. Well the iPhone 6S proved the doubters wrong about a smaller battery. I saw one test showing it lasts as long as the GS7, Let's wait for more tests before making hasty convictions :)
