For those refusing shipment and "picking one up"

Rootbrain, your level of excitement and passion for the device is probably less than that of other people.

There are some of us that was watching the Google IO event and nearly drooling on our desks seeing this tablet. "Oh my god, this is what I need!" And pre-ordered immediately. For those of us that pre-ordered right away, I certainly appreciate the disappointment in seeing people just casually walk into a retail store and grab one while our tablet is still in Kentucky or something.

Maybe our passion and excitement seems unreasonable to you. But oh well.

What would be unreasonable is not receiving my pre-order within the stated time frame of 2-3 weeks, as stated on the site on 6-27 when I placed the order. Deliver is scheduled for tomorrow 7-17. Wish it had been within 2 weeks,l but looks like its at 3. Reasonable.

If charged to a credit card, probably the money isn't a major issue as you can make sure with you cc company that no interest for the period is to be charged. But that is up to each company. If I had used debit or checking to pay, and have to wait 2-3 weeks to get my money back, THAT would be TOTALLY unreasonable.

Way to duck my questions. You didn't answer hether waiting for a refund is the same as waiting for the tablet and whether waiting for a preorder two months after it has been released to brick and mortar stores is still reasonable thing to do.

No your passion and excitement is very NOT unreasonable. My excitement was as high as my expectations are for this tablet, and believe me, they are very high.

And I never said anyone was unreasonable, I said it didn't make sense to me (for me) to do this because waiting for a refund may get this into your hands now, what a day early? 2 to 3 maybe? That's not worth it to me, regardless of my expectations or excitement. If it is for you, enjoy.

This thread wasn't started to troll, just to explain my point of view. If you or anyone see it differently, can't help that.

I sure wasted a lot of gas on Friday by walking into a GS in the same shopping center where I ate lunch.
I got my Nexus 7 sooner and saved $14. You can't beat that with a stick. The refund on my CC will come eventually from the Play store. No worries.

Why do I ask? Duh, to set you up. It gets you to admit that you are not the standard by which people's actions are graded against. As you have stated, waiting for a tablet is not the same as waiting for a refund. Therefore, not waiting for a preorder tablet and getting one at a B&M is a reasonable and sensible action for some people to take.

Same thing with the refund. You have stated that in certain scenarios there are very serious consequences to waiting. If that is so, then there are also scenarios where waiting brings no consequences whatsoever. In those scenarios, picking up a tablet at a B&M is a reasonable and sensible course of action for some people to take. It may not be your cup of tea but it isn't your money they are using.

I am not the most patient person. When I decide to buy something I want it as quickly as possible. I ordered on the 28th (no accessories), and I still haven't had one bit of info about my order sent, even though my card has been charged since Thursday.

I started having buyer's remorse about the 8 gig too.

I didn't have to drive out of my way to buy it.

Waiting for $228 is not going to make or break me.

Plus I am able to enjoy my first tablet days earlier than a pre-order.

I still haven't fully decided to reject the 8gig. My wife may be getting tablet envy.

Shipping was not $14 in Canada. It was $19.

I drove for 15 mins to Staples (13.5 km from my place) on Saturday morning. Even using premium gas on my Lexus, at our Canadian gas prices, that's only $6 worth of gas. Still cheaper than $19. I also got the past weekend out of it and another 4-5 days worth of use, ahead of the pre-order. I actually would have taken the bus (I'm a regular transit user and advocate), but a time crunch nixed that idea. And if I wanted to wait till today, I could have hit up a Staples on the way home. No gas. 5 min walk from my bus route. Had a Starbucks on the way....so totally worthwhile.

UPS/Fedex/etc. all tend to deliver in my area when I'm at work. So I very rarely get packages without picking them up. Their airport delivery centre is 17.5 km from my place. Not only would I end up paying $19 in shipping charges, I would most likely end up burning $10 worth of gas to pick it up. And if the first delivery attempt is on Friday, the next won would be on Monday.

As for the refund, I have patience. And as a Visa Infinite card holder, great support from Visa. I'm sure that will get resolved to my satisfaction much more effectively and expeditiously than Google getting a Nexus 7 in my hands. And $300 is just not that big a deal for me in the grand scheme of things. It's not peanuts. But it's not something where I can't afford to wait.

All in all, I've gotten extra utility out of the tablet and paid less. It took 40 mins of my time and even that's a wash if I missed both delivery attempts. It's a bonus that I will help contribute to a little bit of supply chain chaos for Google that will hopefully teach them a lesson they need to learn.

But your second question still is not valid because I, and nobody else that I can determine is waiting 2 months for delivery of their pre-order after retail release. Way to avoid the question.

2. Doesn't exist? Here in Canada, lots of major retailers have started selling. London Drugs is selling for crying out loud. This is a generic department store/drugstore.

Nobody in Canada pays more to get their stuff after a walk-in at London Drugs. It's like saying you paid for 2-day shipping to get something you could have gotten by walking into Walgreens.

There ya go. It made sense for ya. The extra time with the device would not have been worth it for me, unless I knew that it would be far after the 2-3 week time I was given, or far after the retail release. I'm as excited as everyone else for this, just more patient for the device I guess, where you are more patient for the refund.

No, you must read his question. He wanted to know if waiting to get my pre-order delivered 2-3 months after retail release would be worth it. That situation does not exist. No one who pre-ordered will be waiting 2-3 months for delivery, even from their order date, let alone the retail release date.

I sincerely doubt that Google will make the 3 week commitment in Canada. I ordered on the 28th. Thursday will be 3 weeks.

I haven't heard a peep from Google as of right now. No charge on credit card. No emails. Nothing. And have 72 hours left to meet that "commitment". Meanwhile, just about anybody who wanted one in Canada, picked it up at Staples, Memory Express, NCIX or Canada Computers. And with London Drugs launching, that's yet another retailer. Heck, you could have pre-ordered from Staples this morning and still gotten it before Thursday. Future Shop (Best Buy affiliate) will have it in stores and ship on Thursday. And they give you an extra $60 off a printer if you want one. They'll beat Google too.

Unless you absolutely cannot afford the hold on your credit card, there is no scenario when it makes any sense to stick with a Play pre-order. You'd just be throwing $19 away.

That money could pay for two movie tickets for me and the girlfriend. It could double the payment to one of 6 charities I donate to monthly. It could provide 3 meals to the homeless man that I occasionally buy a sandwich for at the bottom of my office building. Or it could buy me a few beers.

But most importantly for me, I don't want to pay for poor service.

Put it this way. If you go into a restaurant and the waitress utterly ignored you, was rude, got you your order after a 45 minute wait but brought you your food unmolested would you still tip her the full 15%? After all, she met her obligations, right?

(BTW: I drove my gas guzzling Toyota Yaris 3 long miles to Sam's club to pick up my Nexus 7 and saved ~$13.68 (after gas). Anyway...)

I also share your concern about whether Google can deal with the large amount of refunds. So I spent 49 minutes waiting on hold to try to cancel my order (vs refusing UPS). I was told it was too late, and that I should just refuse UPS OR, I could call my credit card company and have them block the 2nd authorization from Google Devices. After all, if they can't charge you, then they won't send you your order (Google reps words, not mine).

So I called my CC company and they locked all transactions from Goole Devices for a month. 10 minutes on the phone, and now I have no return to deal with, I have had my tab since Sat morning, and also saved money while having a local place to return it to if I had an issue out of the box. I think it was a pretty good deal.

If you want to cancel your order and haven't been charged, I recommend this same route if possible.

Too late to cancel the order, your account (either credit, debit or checking) is charged. Soooo today you run down to Staples or GS and pick one up. Pay the $199 or $249 whichever, plus tax.

UPS comes by, if you're there you refuse the shipment. If not, they try two more attempts. Then the device is sent back to Google, who process the returns, check the billing and issue a credit, right? Simple, quick process right?

You're angry at Google because you think they messed up this release because some stores started selling before they were authorized and you think the whole thing is a debacle.

My question is then, why do you think Google will handle your refund any better? Between Google processing it and your banking institution processing it, it will probably be another week AT least. Sorry for you people that had it coming out of your checking, those funds will not be yours again for awhile.

So, you don't have to wait another day or two to get your Nexus 7. You just have to wait another week or two to get your refund.

But hey, you saved the $15 shipping charge by driving you gas guzzler (insert however may miles here) to pick it up and waiting for your bank to make the funds available to you again.

Because I have American Express and they're absolutely rock solid with this type of stuff.

Put it this way. If you go into a restaurant and the waitress tells you the days Ribeye steak special, then tells you it will take 10-15 minutes to prepare then goes to bring it to you on the 14th and a half minute, are you going to run down the street to Texas Roadhouse and pick one up because they charge $3 less?

That's more like the experience I've had with Google and the Nexus 7. Sorry you didn't or expected different than what was clearly stated. Available in 2-3 weeks, mine is being delivered tomorrow. Order placed on Jun 27. Check the calendar. Do I wish it was last week instead of tomorrow? Certainly. But within my expected timeline because that timeline is what was clearly stated.

Someone else said they are still in limbo too. They ordered device with the OEM case. Did you order the case too? Pretty curious.
