For those that got the OTA GB update - get your new phone

I did the factory reset on mine but it did not help at all. Within a few hours the low space message was back. It still gave me the bad version of GB when I looked at my phone settings/about phone/software information. It also still listed my phone as a 4 inch screen when it was supposed to be smaller. And finally when I went into the market it still showed me as having access to Sprint apps and not the verizon apps.

When I called after this I was informed by Verizon that a factory reset will not get you back to the previous version of OS. Not sure I understand exactly why but for me they were right. It did not go back to Froyo.

As to the Incredible 2 being a new vs. refurb. Not sure to be honest. When my incredbile 2 came in last week it was not a refurb box. It was a brand new incredible 2 box with the wrap still on it. It came with everything that a new incredible 2 would come with. According to verizon refurbs come in a white verizon box stating that it is a "like new certified replacement".

Either way if I were you I would go and get the replacement. The incredible 2 comes with Gingerbread and it is better then the incredible. Mine came with the 16gb microSD card so I now have more space. Front facing camera....some higher specs. You really cant lose. It is one of those phones that is better then its predecessor.

Good luck!

Thanks ricbr! I did the reset and have had no issues for 24 hours with the exception of one HTC reboot - unscheduled. I am still on GB as you mentioned and am still seeing the sprint apps and the screen issue description but have not seen the low on space or other issues I was getting before and Gmail sync seems to be working well. I may still call VZ to see what they say but so far so good. It has made me look at what apps were on my phone before though that I did not use. :) So my re-install of apps hasn't taken as long as I left some of them out.

FYI, the 2 HTC Incredible 2's that were sent to me were brand new in the box - not refurbs like Verizon said they would be.

It is definitely worth calling Verizon to complain and get a new gen phone out of it.

The two phones I received did not come with Gingerbread preinstalled/upgraded, so I followed the "check in" upgrade instructions I found over @ Phandroid (http://androidforums.com/3226690-post8.html):

"From your Android phone’s dialer simply enter *#*#checkin#*#*, substituting the letters for numbers, which would be *#*#2432546#*#*. This will put you in the queue, and you should see a notification saying, “Checkin succeeded”. Go into Settings>About Phone>System Update. If there’s an update waiting for you, it’ll pop up then, but don’t expect it to work every time. This won’t work if you’re using a custom ROM, so this is only for users who have not rooted their devices and are running on the stock ROM. "

I was expecting my wife's Dinc2 replacement today via USPS BUT my order was cancelled because the phone is out of warranty! I was furious when I found this out from a Verizon tech. The first tech I talked to that had set me up to get the replacement said nothing about this at all. To make a long story short I was on the phone today with Verizon for an hour arguing with them that their update screwed up my wife's phone and it was no part my fault & they should replace the phone regardless of warranty or not. They finally gave in and said they will replace it "this one time" because of the issues I am having with the phone.

Supposedly Verizon has an extended warranty they offer to cover phones if something like this happens when the phone is out of the 1 year manufactures warranty. This was news to me totally! Not this whole time I have been with Verizon had I been informed about this even when I purchased my Thunderbolt back in May. And of coarse it can't be added now if anything should go wrong I'm SOL! Also supposedly Asurion has an open enrollment 1 time every year that lets you add this extended warranty to your phone but it is some time in June from what the Tech told me.

This is a big headache for anyone that has these issues with any phone that is out of warranty and had an OTA totally frag their phone. Oh yes they will let you early upgrade but thats at your expense of having to shell out a few hundered bucks that it totally unnecessary if the Manufactures and Verizon does more extensive testing with these OTA's. Just thought I'd let everyone know what frustration I experienced today with the Big V! Grrrrrrrr

Question for all of those who have gotten Dinc 2's in exchange for your poorly running Dincs, did you have to re-up or extend your contract with your replacement? Or did the just replace it (without any extension of your contract terms?

Just wondering because my wife's and my Dincs (had since July 2010) both have the GB upgrade and both phones have been running horribly since (Memory low, battery life bad, etc). Resets don't seem to help for very long. My (primary) line has one annual early upgrade left on it. I'm just wondering if I call, will they make me use that annual upgrade or extend our contracts our further with the "new" phone?

No extension to the contract. It's a Factory Re-certified Like New Devise (Refurbished). If you have the Extended warranty on the phone that comes with the $7 insurance then you shouldn't have any problems getting replacements but if your phones are older than 1 year they are out of warranty and they might make you early upgrade or tell you wait till a patch comes out. Like my post stated I argued with them for over an hour and finally got them to send me a replacement even though I was out of warranty and don't have the "Extended Warranty" . All I can suggest is be persistent and insist that their update fragged the phone and they should replace it at their expense and hope for the best.

Add me to the list of DInc owners who demanded a new phone b/c of the update. I went to my local verizon store and explained that after the update I'm getting all the same issues as described above: low memory error (even though over 45% is available), white screen loops, random reboots, etc. I tried a factory reset to no avail.

At first the employee said there was nothing he could do b/c my warranty was up by 5 weeks but he suggested I call HTC to see if they could help or I could buy a new phone since I'm eligible for an upgrade. I flat out told him no and that it's not my fault that Verizon fails to test their product b/f they push an update out. My phone worked great b/f this update and don't want to upgrade quite yet. I insisted on speaking with a manager but the same employee came back and said he got permission to contact HTC.

10 minutes later and boom they are mailing me a Droid Incredible 2 as a replacement. I made sure that I wasn't advancing my current contract or losing my upgrade, both of which were confirmed. My advice if they aren't offering you anything, would be to insist on speaking with a manager. Good luck all.

Congrats to the those who are getting Incredible 2 replacements! It's a really nice phone. I haven't seen any problems with my Incredible after GB update and was surprised when I read this thread! Looks like those who got bad updates actually got pretty lucky! :)

I was wondering if anyone knew if Verizon actually verifies that your phone is the one you bought from their store. I purchased an SLCD Inc in December of 2010, but the screen cracked and got a bunch of dust in it so I bought an AMOLED Inc in April of 2011. Will they tell me that I can't get a new Inc 2 because the phone I have is not the original one that I bought? Will they even be able to tell? I have my original Inc, but I replaced the screen because of the crack, will that also affect me getting a new Inc 2? Thank youuu(:

So, I called Verizon today to see about getting my DI's replaced and I got the "in need to do another factory reset" one more time to see if maybe that will help (of which I told them I had done one already which only temporarily fixed my problems. They are supposed to call me back tomorrow and, if it doesn't fix my problem, they will send me replacements... Hmmmm... :-\

So I broke down and called Verizon today about my phone issues since the OTA update. I had written them an email and all I got back contact information to get a hold of HTC. They were very nice and my new phone will be here tomorrow. But, just my luck, its the original Incredible, not the 2. I guess they still have some in stock after all.

They were going to send me an original Inc as well, but I asked if it would be possible to get an Inc 2. I said that I'd heard of other people online getting their Incs recplaced with Inc 2's and that I'd had this "Low on Space" issue with my first Inc as well (I was on my 2nd) and I was getting really sick of it. The girl I spoke with went and asked her supervisor and then came back and said it was fine.

I have to repeat what someone else posted earlier -- if you do not have insurance on the phone, you are NOT guaranteed a replacement.

I noticed another new problem with my DInc -- the camera often forces the phone to reboot &, of course, I lose the photo that was taken in the process. I spoke with VZW support for almost 1 hour. She did everything, including 1. conferencing in HTC, 2. calling VZW stores to see if they had a way to flash back to Froyo (never counted on that happening. lol.), and 3. offering an upgrade. But, the buck stopped there.

I even asked if they could send me a refurbished DInc, and she insisted that they can't do that on an uninsured phone.

I remained polite, yet agitated throughout the call. I guess I needed to be a real prick in order to get a working phone, huh?

Just got my wife's replacement Dinc2 via FedEx this morning! It looks like a brand new phone. Still in original box & wrapping and everything included when you get a new phone. Any way I can tell if its new or refb?

i tried to get mine replaced and they are sending me another Dinc 1. should have it tmrw but i may call back and try and get a Dinc 2.

So, yeah... Verizon is going to get an earful from me. I had to do the factory reset yesterday to make sure I didn't troubleshoot my phones on my own well enough prior to them sending me replacements for both of my DI's. They assured me they would call today to follow up and make sure the factory reset actually fixed my phone (otherwise they would set up my replacements). Since the reset I've had all of the usual issues (minus the low memory error, which I'm sure is just around the corner).

Yeah, they were supposed to call 3 hours ago. I'm not a happy camper. I figure I will wait until tomorrow after work and give them an earful.

Well I got my phone today and it's the original Dinc. They said they cant replace it with anything else cause they have the Dinc 1 in stock. So looks like we will be stuck until they run out again.

I got my GB update pushed to me a couple days after it started rolling out. Immediately started getting the "Low on Space" notification. After 2 days decided to do a factory reset including wiping my entire SD card. Decided to lower the amount of apps and music I put on my phone, stuck with the necessities. This left me with 6.5GB of internal phone storage open, 3.5GB left on my 8 GB SD card. Everything was good for a little while. Phone was working great. Never been happier with my DInc. Then the "Low on Space" started appearing again. I got fed up with clearing all the application data everytime I use my phone (picture messages, clearing Facebook app data, Twitter app data, etc), so I called Verizon and spent 30 minutes on the phone.

WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!!

I explain my problem, tell him I've done the factory reset already and wiped my SD card. Guy offers me this special deal that he spends a minute hyping up before he presents it: $149.99 for a DInc2. I tell him I'm not interested in spending almost $200 after taxes on a phone because the phone they sold me a year and a half ago got a buggy GB update. If I'm gonna spend that much, I'll deal with this phone until my upgrade in March. He tells me this deal is between me and him, and not me and Verizon (such BS!). I ask about refurbished phones and he tells me they don't do that, or that I have to go to a corporate store and talk to them about it, but says they won't be able to give the same amazing deal he is offering. Then he tries to sweeten his deal by offering to sell me a extended battery at 50% off (this is after I rejected it the offer of 25% off the battery). I say no thanks, I'm not spending this kind of money. He says once I hang up he's rescinding this spectacular offer. I say that's ok and he says, well...... I'll do this for you: I'll call you back Saturday and give you this same offer after you've spent some time thinking about it.

What a joke! I'll be doing some thinking. I'll be thinking about what I'll be saying to his boss when I ask to speak with him/her and I'll definitely be being a bit more aggressive with the tech support crew. Very disappointed with their "service."

My wife's Dinc (without the GB update) was having the 'low application memory' issue on a regular basis. Since I had decided to shoot the whole wad and do a Factory Reset, I figured I might as well give the GB update that Android Central had referred to just the other day a shot - what a mistake that was. After loading it, neither the phone connection or the data connection worked any longer: after activating the phone, it still showed a bogus phone #, and wouldn't make any calls without wanting a credit card. The data connection just plain never worked. Over an hour on the phone with a Verizon Customer Support person resulted in no change. So he said he'd ship out a replacement - it was 3 a.m. and I didn't feel like pushing the Dinc 2 issue; just figured I'd wait and see. It turned out to be an original Dinc - ah well, it appears to be in better shape than the one we're sending back.
That's what I get for not listening to what I read on the forums, and going with Android Central's write up instead. Caveat emptor.

That really sucks, but there are always risks any time you do a manual upgrade :(

Better luck with the replacement.
