For you savvy folkes with Voodoo fix...

Just a quick question...... if I am running the Super Clean DI01 Rom and Dirrk's Kernel With Voodoo, if I create the disable_lagfix file, and reboot the phone, would I be able to flash the stock kernel through clockwork recovery, or do I have to use Odin? I tend to be a happy flasher with new Roms, and I'm wondering if I can "flash on the go" so to speak, without Odin and my laptop nearby. :)

It depends.. This is confusing, because people use the same concept for two different items. The basics..

A kernel image is the file called zImage, which is produced as a result of compiling.

For Odin, zImage is archived into a "tar" file. If the extension is .tar, and opening it up reveals zImage, you cannot flash that via CWM.

CWM uses the recovery scripts to do its work. When you point it to a zip file, it unzips that file, then executes whatever the script inside the packge tells it to do. For Voodoo, the script tells CWM to located the zImage kernel within the package, and then it uses another utility inside that package to "flash" the kernel to the system. This step does the same thing as Odin does when it flashes the kernel to the device.

The difference is that Odin doesn't know what to do with those "scripted" zip files.

So the answer to your question is "it depends". More than likely the stock kernel you'll use was released before CWM (or in order to install CWM), so it won't work if you try to use it outside of Odin. When in doubt, download the file, and open it up, and see what's inside. If you see 2-3 directores, some other files, etc.. it's probably a scripted update (not odin). If you just see zImage, recovery, etc.. it's just for use with Odin.

Thanks so much for the quick response :) the stock kernel is an update zip, not a .tar file, I think Dirrk actually posted it somewhere on xda, and I'm probally wishful thinking, but I'm just getting ready (and anxious) for some 2.2 love and I remember reading voodoo is not needed for 2.2 and probally won't work with 2.2 roms, I believe they both use the ext4 extension or something of the sort, but as soon as one drops, I wanna be able to flash it and it looks like I am good to go. You guys are awesome!!!!!!! :D
