Former Blackberry User with Nexus 6P - several questions

Re: Should I switch??

You mentioned a couple of times that you're not a big fan of Android - what is it that you don't like?
Too many options for the sake of customization. I get annoyed with all the notifications it comes up with constantly.
Biggest issue for me was lack of one email client that handles all my accounts - gmail, icloud and exchange. BlackBerry does this beatifully. I hope with marshmallow, the gmail app seems to be working for all email accounts. I still don't see a proper dropbox integration with the gmail app - I'm a big email user for business. Have all my documents in dropbox. With BlackBerry I can easily attach many files from dropbox to an email. This functionality is missing on androids

Plus simple BlackBerry functions like quick profile change , bed time mode etc isn't simple to do on android. For all these standard bb10 features I have to look for apps which sometimes don't exactly do what I need. Bb10 is just a great OS which has all the basics covered.

Re: Should I switch??

There are lots of e-mail apps that will handle all of you e-mail accounts. I'm currently using G-MAIL app which can handle both pop and imap servers. I've also used K9 Mail which also does a good job.

You can attach documents from Dropbox to a Gmail e-mail, you just have to set the permissions on the Dropbox app, I just tried it and it works find.

As for customization, that's the whole point of Android, if you don't like choice then I think you'll be better off with an iPhone.

Try attaching 2 or more files from dropbox to an email. Not one at a time. Ability to select multiple files in one shot is a basic feature android should have.

Don't know what you mean by this. I attach multiple photos and files from my Drive in one shot. When I'm doing an email I select attach. Locate my files in Drive etc and long press the first one and then tap all the others I want to include. I don't use Dropbox so maybe that's different?

Yes. Google drive works but not dropbox. Go figure that!! With bb10 all cloud servces just work fine

Read up on it and it doesn't look like an Android issue. Been requested numerous times on Dropbox Support. They simply haven't enabled it for some reason.

When I switched from BB to Android (around 2010), profiles were one of the things I missed. Now I don't at all. I just play with volume if I need my notifications more or less loud, and I use Do-Not-Disturb when I am in a meeting. You can also set up DND to automatically start and stop, for example at night time, or if you have weekly meetings always at the same time.

Re: Should I switch??

You're going to need to adjust to a different OS one way or the other, it'll either be Android or iOS. The 6P is a fantastic phone, but one of Android's core tenets is customization, so the 6P and stock Android are always going to make that a big feature. Might try a Note 5 if you're looking for a phone that does more preset stuff. Or you could go with Apple, you won't have to think about anything at all, but you won't have much choice either.

Either way, if you're not a big fan of Apps, you're gonna have trouble, so might wanna rethink that approach.

My main requirement is email. If only android could work as well as BlackBerry for emails I'll make the switch. Main issue was inability to attach multiple files from drop box. I may have to move my files to Google drive just for this. Also how well the gmail syncs the folders for non gmail accounts and can we search for mails that are on the server? (for emails that are older than the sync period you set)

My advice is to not become too wedded to one cloud service. I tried that approach once and quickly discovered that each cloud service has its own quirks and issues for doing certain things. I stopped trying to make things work that just wouldn't and just decided to jump ship to another when it became too frustrating. I started using Box a few years ago, then left for DB, and now I use Gdrive. Yeah it's tedious moving files to different services but I felt a few hours of uploading wasn't a big deal to get what I wanted since I only did it once a year or so. I think you're coming at this from the wrong end, shopping for a phone around a cloud service instead of shopping for a cloud service around which phone you have.

Turn off contact icons in gmail?

Anyway to turn off the contact icons in gmail? It takes up space and makes the entire email app looks unprofessional. Anyway to turn this off??

Box > DropBox > Drive ... same here for similar reasons. I can't remember the promo but Box was giving away storage. Now I just use DropBox, Drive and keep most photos on Google. The ones I really cherish I save to all three. DropBox was my favorite but they need to update a few things for 6.0. I'm surprised it's taking them so long since they're usually as quick as anyone.

Re: Turn off contact icons in gmail?

Yes. Go to the settings in the gmail app. Under general settings. There is an option for sender image.

I remember that promo, it was 50GB free IIRC. I switched anyway because the mobile app's UI and the sharing options and API's were clunky to use compared to DB and Drive

Re: Should I switch to the 6P??

Dropbox is much more intuitive than Google docs, I don't think you should change if you're already invested in dropbox. Does dropbox on the iPhone allow multi uploads at once?

Re: Should I switch to the 6P??

It kinda seems like you would be better off with an iPhone. You don't like Android and don't care about customization. I've always felt like Android was more centered toward the more tech focused crowd especially with the Nexus devices.

Anyone switched from BlackBerry??

Anyone switched to nexus 6p from BlackBerry Passport SE? Do u like it or missing bb10? I've been sitting on the fence on this for a while now and would like some real users opinion who have switched from BlackBerry.

Sometimes I think once the new phone novelty runs out, I might miss my BlackBerry and the passport. Any comments are appreciated.

I know it's not the Passport, but I just recently switched from a Blackberry Z30. While I'm really enjoying the 6p, I do miss some of the feel and functionality of the BB10 OS.

For example, I listen to a lot of podcasts/music and really miss the physical action button where I could hit pause/play without having to turn on the screen. Pretty sure the only way this can be replicated on the 6p is to root the phone.
The built-in file manager on BB10 is amazing, while the stock one on marshmallow is compete garbage, and you have to download a 3rd party app to get the same features.
I also miss simply swiping up from the bottom to go home, but I'm slowly getting used to how things work on Android.
Also, for some reason I can't sync my Facebook contacts with my phone contacts, so that's a bit of a bummer for me.
All in all I really love the 6p, the screen is beautiful, the camera is great, the speakers are comparable to the Z30's, and I have access to every app under the sun in the playstore.
